How do you join a crusade?

I keep getting excommunicated by the pope for not joining a crusade. I don't know how to join a crusade I don't see a button that engages my faction in the crusades. Anyone that can help? I know I've been asking a few newb questions but I only ask because google searches turned up nothing.

you cant join crusades. its a strange oversight for a game called crusader kings

You need to declare war on the lord over the crusade target using "Crusade" as CB.

I think if you just declare war on the enemy in question and sail your men over there/land on the province in question, you become a crusader...
