I can't figure it out, my CV's, CL's and transports won't reach Hawaii let alone the West coast of the U.S, even when I stop them over at one of my developed islands along the way, they won't resupply. It doesn't make sense!

Please help!

That pretty much sums it up. You need to take Islands closer to the coast with a port. Once you take say, Hawaii, you should be able to rebase there and launch the invasion from Hawaii. Just make sure you control the seas around it though and escort heavily. One CTF can ruin your entire invasion.

It does raise the old Pearl Harbour question. i.e. You can't do it.

In HOI2, I seem to remember that upon declaration of war, the Japanese player had a surprise bonus added to any attacks for a short period (or was that just my imagination or a mod ?).

Is the same true in HOI3\Semper Fi ?

well, something like this:

HoI3_22.jpg

Or you could go through alaska. its a better sight seeing path anyway.

Personally I prefer India -> Africa -> Columbia -> Mexico -> California

Sometimes I add Africa -> England -> Canada -> and then drive down from Vancouver to California

The only way Japan can invade anywhere in the Western Hemisphere is Pearl Harbor -> Los Angeles or San Diego; every other Pacific port that Japan could invade is beyond the transport range. The US does not need to garrison any province north of LA because it is literally impossible for invasion fleets to reach them.

However, it is possible for Japan to invade via the Atlantic; taking South Africa is a prerequisite to taking Ascension Island and/or St. Helena, from which you can reach Rio in Brazil.

That's a narrow view of things.

OP, try this:

Take the Dutch East Indies, causing Netherlands to fall.

Once they fall, their holdings in S.America/Gulf of Mexico will become Axis property.

Rebase an invasion there, and then either go into the SE of the USA, or take Panama for trans-oceanic ease.

Going through Mexico is very dangerous in 1.4, because the moment you have any holdings in Mexico, the US will send their DC superstack to visit. They'll have a decent supply situation by land, while you'll only have a couple of ports at the most.

The right way to invade the US in 1.4 is to do some major hopping around. You can use mexico, but only as a decoy to the US forces, expecting to lose it. Then, you launch a naval invasion of at least 4 different US ports. The AI will have no idea of how many forces it'll need for defense, and you can pull off a couple of huge encirclements.

What I usually do is launch a massive - multipronged assault from a couple of different locations.
1. An large amphib landing around either Boston or New York (launched from the carribean or south america)
2. A small amphib landing around Miami (launched from the carribean or south america)
3. Advance up through Mexico. (I usually put a large chunk of my armor here as that works great for wearing down the US infantry in the open desert/plains)
4. Small landing around LA or San Fransico (launched from Mexico)
5. Very Small landing around Seattle - usually just a corps of mountain troops with a single Lt Armored division (launched from LA once the port has been secured)

The biggest fighting is usually in the North east around Phily and DC and at the border with Mexico. The smaller landings in Florida and California usually don't get that much attention allowing for modest initial gains without much effort. Seattle is almost always a deserted area allowing for easy gains through the rockies

You will probably need to shuffle troops between the various fronts to respond to pressure, openinings in the US defenses.

One mighty unfortunate thing is that Alaska isn't a potential gateway considering the HOI3 world is flat. Meaning the distance from one longitude to the other is equal, regardless of latitude.

(See the Aleutian Islands? They should almost be touching the Soviet Union's eastern coast!)

It should be part of the HOI3 advertisement, really. Play out World War Two, now fought on a Ring world! Exciting cylindrical game map!

Luckily the DC superstack is generally only INF, so their 4 kph travel speed means they'll never reach Mexico before the Axis arrives on the Rio Grande. Maybe a few armored or motor divisions, but nothing substantial.

If the Battle of France is still goin on aren't most US units tied up their? I've never tried it but I imagine it would be as easy as taking Pearl Harbor which is within range and then attacking anywhere along the coast, like Seattle or Vancuver. I would land in multiple places since one port can't usually supply enough units.
