1. Starting with Sardinia-Piedmont is a good choice to get familiar with the new game system. Basically, Sardinia is a country with economic and military potential to become a GP. With a decent ranking, I can play with colonization, industrialization, as well as navy and army, and the great Unification of Italy, kicking the GPs out of Italy.
2. Madagascar is one of my favorite. It's happy to know that civilizing the uncivilized is now possible in Vic 2. So I'll try to civilize Madagascar before the Europeans start scrambling Africa, then industrialize the country, become a GP, make Africa an Africans' Africa. Hopefully it is possible.
And I believe civilizing and industrializing a large unciv country like China or Japan will not be very difficult.

That was exactly what the Japanese said in the first half of the 20th centuryFor an added bonus play "Protector of Asia". Don't let those damn Europeans take a slice of your smaller Asian siblings. (Because once you are civilized you want to have them all to yourself!)
It will be quite a task to get your massive poorly equipped armies to keep marching into the artillery (and if you leave it too long, machine guns, tanks and gas!) of the European powers. But ultimately you have the manpower to do it![]()
