We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
They stay until either that war ends or until you go to war. Just park them somewhere remote and let the Republicans win.

I think you can't, you have to delete them with access to a dockyard to return the equipment and manpower, so that you can retrain them.

Just always keep a route to a nationalist port, and you will be transported home when the Nat. loose the war. Happened to me in 1.5.1 beta yesterday.
