How do you get a cat?

I really wan't one, is there a specific way of life I should choose or something?

It`s just random I think. And you don`t get a cat. A cat will get you.

I got it once while my character had intrigue focus. Considering that the cat gives +1 intrigue I assumed it was a new event related to that. However when playing MP with a friend he got a cat while hunting focus was on (So he had both the dog and the cat for a whopping +2 health).

So - I guess it's just random?

According to the related dev diary:

"... you can befriend a cat in a number of ways."

So whether there are actually conditions that can be met to have some sort of MTTH to get a cat or not, I'm not too sure.

Ah, here we go. To quote somebody from that dev diary thread:

There are two ways to get the pet cat. One is a long MTTH event (3500 months, over 291 years), the other is during the Black Death, if you keep cats under observation when the peasants accuse them of causing the plague.

I got a cat at some point on two consecutive games, both times the current ruler had intrigue focus and was in the middle of some heavy spying/plotting shenanigans. I'm sure it's no coincidence. It's probably not the only way to get one, though.

Well, you either buy one in a pet shop or grab a stray one off the street.
