whats the goal of your campaign?

india has enough dev to the point that becoming empire rank and accepting all your culture group is easy

if your campaign is limited to indian hegemony its a matter of choosing which of the indian cultures you want to accept and which you do not care for. if your campaign goals are limited to india you dont really need diplo mana for integrating vassals like crazy so you can culture convert the smaller culture groups to one you accept even if it is an inefficient use of diplo points normally. something like bengali culture will always be valuable to accept, whereas cultures such as sinhalese or the entire central indian group will generally not contain a lot of dev and not be worth accepting relative to others

if your campaign goals go beyond india and trend towards world domination its a matter of deciding which cultures are valuable to you, if accepting them is worth the point cost (also considering if you plan to drop it at a later stage) and which culture groups you plan to expand into. cultures like egyptian and turkish will likely be more valuable to accept than any individual indian culture so you will need to make plans considering how many culture slots you have and what your intermediate campaign goals are

Play Humanist and culture convert minor ones (by developpement it's easy to convert a culture who have a lot of 3 to dev province).
If you plan to culture convert a lot, religious can be an option (and if you play an Hindu tag you'll get a nice cassus belli on a lot of tag)

Or just play mughal.

As hindu nation I don't want to state anything in India. I move my capital to other region and add everything to TC.
Hindu nation with buddha diety unlocked (you need to start as Majapahit, Khmer, Sunda and complete mission) can get many bonuses to minimum autonomy
-25% from monuments
-10% from expansion ideas
-10% from 6th government reform
-5/-10% from manufactury
thats 50-55 reduction so you'll have 35-40% autonomy in all provinces.

If you want you can become economic hegemon, form United States and get another 30% reduction. With TC investment Governor General's Mansion you even can lower minimum autonomy in TCs to 0-5% depending on resource in province with State house

You will get all advantages of TC without any disadvantages

The 'religous state' privilege is worth it's weight in India - you stack so much religious unity you can ignore that, and so the 20% culture convert price reduction is just lovely. Made my India Panjabi from coast to coast that way, without lagging in tech/ideas.

the big brain move nowadays is to put only a few provinces into TC. The % trade in node belonging to the TC increases the % goods produced by every province in the trade zone EXCEPT your trade company provinces. The bigger brain move is to put one high trade province into TC, and everything else held by a right culture vassal who states it. The biggest brain move is to turn the local vassal into a local PU. I'm saving up my pope mana to "fix" mysore before I go hogwild on the subcontinent.

If you have high autonomy in TCs you only can get money from them and your way is much better.

When you have low autonomy then buildings like barracks are useful even in TCs and you can combine this with Military Administration for additional +100% manpower. Too bad it only makes sense with hindu monuments or as economic hegemon

something to consider once you've 3'd all your monuments changed your capital to washington dc and formed united states!

On the other hand, here is just some random south indian province cranking out 4.42 textiles a click, in 1585. The flip side of this important to know, because if you just take centers of trade and leave the mass of continent in enemy hands, even though you suck up all the trade income, they become massively wealthy from production income. In this game I have a bahmanis who is current in tech and far more vicious than ottomans who I am going to have to break once mysore is sorted out.

Having the wrong culture and religion arent that bad. The manpower, tax and unrest modifiers are additive not multiplicative. You can make up for them with buildings and national modifiers. By the midgame it doesnt even matter because the game economy increases at such an incredible rate that you can throw ducats at every problem. Just try to make your way at the Gujarat trade node.

and this is the province in TC with lower autonomy than usual. Look at manpower from 5 dev - fully stated with training fields it would have 2500 manpower but TC with 0 autonomy would have 3750 manpower. At 30% autonomy TC is better for manpower/sailors than state and it requires less gov capacity (with town hall it's almost no gov capacity)

In this game I started as Majapahit to check if going back to Hindu would allow me to select Buddha as diety and I can do this, I can also propagate Hindu religion in trade nodes from Majapahit's mission.

Maybe it's something to consider when going for Hindu one faith
