I'll soon be taking over all of Itally and expanding into Burgundy, Aquitaine, and France... but there's an ugly problem... France's borders are absolutely hideous. They've got a C Shaped border that wraps around Middle Francia and into parts of Bohemia and Saxony. Then they've got these little isolated territories that were once de jure part of the unborn East Francia, but have shifted, becoming de jure part of France. I want to change this, first of all I want to change the de jure borders of france. I want to give back to East Francia, for starters. Now, I don't have CB for much of the Germanic part of Europe, I only have CB against france, spain, aquitaine, burgundy, england, wales, and what remains of italy.

As Byzantine Emperor I did that by landing Carlonman's grandson, matrilineally marrying him to my house Isauros, giving him Bulgaria as a viceroyalty, and then watching as everything except Bavaria and Lombardy slid into my grasp. No chance for HRE, but that's a worthy sacrifice for a nice christian magenta color all throughout Western Europe.

Just resign yourself to the fact the AI Karlings are horrendous at keeping their dynasty alive. Mine died off 80 years into Charlemagne start. The AI for the first two generations have zero self preservation, more so for Karlings who have a lot of power locked behind very few dynasty members.

Hehe, your Karlings lasted for 80 years? That's an amazingly long time.. :p Same here... I'm actually not at the point where I have those cbs yet, I'm two counties and two assassinations away from it. But... The Caliph decided now was a good time to try and reclaim jerusalem.

I've been playing for a bit. It's now 1150 or so.

The bordergore sorted itself out.

You can always take a Karling and press his claims against several Realms all at the same time.

Invite Karling with claims to a bunch of Kingdoms ---> Declare war on first kingdom. --> DO NOT RAISE YOUR TROOPS --> Declare war on other kingdoms without raising troops. --> Once you declared war on all the kingdoms, raise your levies. --> Win --> No more border gore.

My goal of expanding the empire will have to wait... I won the jihad in a landslide, but took severe losses in the process. Wish I could force the caliph to pay reparations...

Alright, NOW I have the CBs I mentioned in the beginning. Hehe, looks like I'm able to declare war on all of europe pretty much...
