When designing a division comprised of mech. infantry and light armour, I want to have the mech inf. insignia on the counter, however it ALWAYS seems to come up with the light armour insignia.

I prefer it this way so my units are easier to distinguish on the map, and add a little more variety. I have noticed that it says something along the lines of 'the brigade with the highest priority will appear on the counter' but I'd prefer to show the mech. symbol. Pressing the button to change the order of the brigades on the division designer page doesn't alter it.

Anyone know if it's possible?

If I recall rigth, shown icon is the icon of the first brigade.

So put mech brigade to the top.

It will then place it in order of priority,

Currently the only way to do it is to mod, mech to higher priority than light armour..

I agree that this would be a nice change for the same reason. A lot of people build a mech / light armor division that functions like mech inf.

The priority really should be medium armor / mech / light armor / mot.

That means early game light armor / mot divisions will look like armor, and late game light armor / mech divisions will look like mech. Medium armor in any formation will always look like armor.

I think it is because of "priority" static. LArm have 10 and Mech 9.
It is, if I'm not totally mistaken. So it's fully moddable in the unit stats.

Sounds good...

Or even a system where simply whatever brigade you start the division with will show up as the unit icon.

Do you know what file is necessary to change to do this? Cheers.
The unit files have the value "priority". It's in units/[name of unit].txt, IIRC.

The icon of a division is depending on the unit with the highest priority.

The icon of a counter stack depends on the last selected division (that is therefore placed "on top" of the counter stack).

If you want to change the icons shown on divisions you simply have to edit the priority values in the "units" folder.

Example for L-ARM, very bottom of the file:
Code:
[...]
completion_size = 1.0
	on_completion = armour_practical
	priority = 10

Edit to

Code:
completion_size = 1.0
	on_completion = armour_practical
	priority = 5

This way it has lower priority than INF and thus INF will be shown as a division icon if you build LARM/INF divs.

It doesn't work like that, if you start the division with a mech. brigade and then add light armour the light armour will jump to the top and that symbol will be shown.

Which is kind of lame, since when you build 3 inf+1 larm you see it as panzer division and not the infantry division supported by tanks, which this setup should represent. It a) is misleading b)doesn't feel right. It should show the priority to first show the brigade with highest count (not support brigades of course) and if two or more are tied, it should prefer the first one added.

EDIT: that work-around looks nice. sadly it's not so flexible...

Well I just noticed something when looking through the unit files and priority. I noticed that some units have the same priority, ie mech. and mot. infantry.

Sooo, I loaded the game back up and tried the division designer and started a division with a mech then added a mot...it appears as a MECH icon. Then I did the reverse and it appears as a MOT icon. Cool.....so does that mean that if I theoretically changed all the land units to the same priority the division icon would be whatever brigade I started it with?

Something to note, when you open up the production screen it is sorted by what the brigade will look like when produced. There is also a sort option above the symbols, which produces a tool tip basically telling you that the engine will produce a unit with that symbol.

I know but that doesn't work. It always reverts to the priority number.
