Can I have some clarification on how starbases upgrade, do they cost rare resources upkeep, what about defence platforms (do they cost upkeep)?

I have 2 shipyards, they are absolutely same, yet 1 has upgraded weapons, the other has not. Is there a way to upgrade them?

Star bases only have energy as an upkeep cost, same goes for defense platforms.
The amount of upkeep you need to pay is dependend on how many modules and buildings, and in case of the defense platforms which weapons, are built on it.
However, defense platforms do cost rare resources to built once you reach higher tier weapons and shields but as I said, it's only a one-time cost when building them (same goes for ships, you never have rare resources as upkeep, only as build-cost).

I think if a star base uses older components it might be due to a bug that they did not update correctly, try to remove a module and rebuild it, that might fix it.

Thank you for the answer. Are you sure defence platforms cost only energy, because it seemed to me that my alloy ship upkeep has gone up when I had more, so I thought defence platforms count as ships

The defense platforms do cost alloys as upkeep too. They're cost-efficient ships that don't count against your naval capacity but only exist around the star base.

No they are not. Their buffs didn't carry over to 2.2. Before 2.2 they had no mineral upkeep and discounted energy. Now they are crap
