CO, or anyone who knows: how do CiMs decide how to get to their destination? I've seen people drive a single block and people walk nearly across the city. I see people wait for months at a bus stop to travel a single stop (serious CO auto-space the transit vehicles!) and I've seen people wait in traffic until they despawn when a metro exists at the front door of their house and their workplace.

Do cims simply randomly pick a mode? How can I encourage people to walk or take transit? Even with extremely direct and un-crowded direct metro lines to peoples destinations, or a perfectly direct and short walk, so many people still drive. At the same time people will walk long dangerous routes at times.

How exactly do these mechanics work? What influences CiM's choices to walk,transit, or drive?

Good question.

I would also like to know if Cims can use different modes of transportation for parts of their trips?

For example: drive the first half with the bus, then walk a short distance and take the metro for the rest of the trip.
Or can they switch bus lines?

From what i have seen so far, Cims always only choose one bus line and make the rest on foot.

I've seen people drive to and from a train station, you can see cars parked there sometimes. I've also seen people transfer from bus to bus or any form of transit to another. I'm most curious what makes a cim pick transit vs driving as it doesn't seem to be simply a case of speed/proximity.

I think there is a softcap maybe on how many will use it at any given time.

I've redone my entire public transit probably 4-5 times streamlining it where I saw buildups of people and making it as quick and from point A to B as I could with as few transfers to other types, down to a science almost..haha
And they do use multiple types in one trip. The majority of mine will get off subway to busstop to go home and vice versa.
And even with no wait times beyond one load (as in no one waiting for more than the 2nd bus/metro to come) I cannot get more than 10-15% of my population to use it. and 20% in rare spikes.

(some rough average over time numbers) If I have:
30k people 3000-4000 use it.
50k people 5000-6000 use it.
75k people 7500-9000 use it.
100k people 10000-15000 use it.

Even trying an experiment of making metro/bus/train connections the ONLY option to a place with convenient exchange points within 1/2 a block of each other to transfer..same results.
So I'm thinking if its getting near the limit as people move around, less choose to use it, even if they did previous trip to same place.

I am certain I have seen people exit a metro and then queue up at the bus station I had for them outside the metro station.

Ditto. In my latest city, people from my harbour went straight for the nearest bus station and for the nearest metro station, even if that's a few blocks away.

If this logic is always used... Don't know, don't think that's the case, but would love to know that too. It's interesting if you consider there was a city block that used a lot of footpaths and it seems like a lot of citizens used that to move around, even to their job, instead of a car.

CIMs indeed love to use footpaths, I try to use them whenever I can and it's a good way to lower traffic a bit.

I've seen some cims take paths bigger then they probably should I wonder how time is factored in the decision making, some strange decisions could be related to this.
