DOW, sue for peace, that's it. As long as you do not demand the title or a revassalization, there's no need to relinquish your claim on the title(s).

So If A vassal breaks free and is already independent, how to I use this to decrease my BB?
Relinquish the claim in the peace deal. If you're not at war, you can't use it. But in DV there's an event that will fire if you have high BB and at least one claim, allowing you to give up your oldest claim for some BB reduction.

Another way is that if you have many same level titles as your primary title you can give them to vassal and he becomes independent (although he still becomes vassal of your liege if you have one).
For example, if you're king of England and Scotland giving king of Scotland title to vassal will create independent Kingdom of Scotland. If duke of Carinthia and Verona gives duke of Verona title to the vassal, then the duke of Verona is independent from Carinthia, but still vassal of the King of Germany, Burgundy and Italy.
But if you're a king and you want your duke to go independent then all you can hope (besides DOW) is that he declares independence. It's more likely if in case of distant vassals.

So, in an attempt to reduce BB (I really over-extended myself here), I tried giving up one of my king titles (King of Poland) and retaining King of Bohemia.
But when I did that, I lost half of my kingdom as I had previously granted Dukes of Greater and Lesser Poland.
I guess I still don't quite have the liege things straight. I was expecting the new King of Poland to still be my vassal rather than granting him full autonomy. I didn't realise you can't puppet a king in DV VIP.
Not wanting to have that, I admit I reloaded and tried another option and I seem to be (barely) holding things together. I did have one vassal (heretic) break away - but I will leave that for the moment and regain them once I have reduce my BB to a decent level.

Yep ... it is not possible to have vassals of the same tier as yourself. It can only happen through a bug, or if one of the Kings is actually using a Duchy-tier tag. I am not sure which ones that might be though.
A good way to reduce BB for you, could be a "conquering spree" ... attack pagans and when settling peace, acknowledge their claims and force-vassalize them ... should actually improve your reputation. Though it might be a bit gamey.

Grand total: -1 BB. After six or seven provinces you should be in much better shape
you could also kill your own king and rule with your son, doesn´t BB points reset when there is a new king?
That is a great question which I raised in another thread. When one "tested" this (I prefer to play without reloading, but when learning - hey.....) my king's son inhierited with exactly the same BB value. This may be because I am playing DVIP
That is what I expected - but not what actually happened. So I am hoping someone with more experience will either say it should have and then I'll edit the save game as a legitimate thing or will explain why it should not have and I'll play it out as I go.
AFAIK BB is inherited in full.
Combined with the succession loyalty hit, High bb is a recipe for Realm Duress.
Easier way that has been said in a few threads (and I tried with successes) is just waiting for a vassal to rebel, defeat him, revassalize BUT give up your claims on his titles that you automatically get when he rebels. With some rounds of fighting your realm should be back into shape and BB disappears.
