Hi!

I'm playing as scandinavia (Sweden -> Scandinavia) and my country is a constitutional monarchy where I as king can set teh ruling party. But I want to change government into a democracy . . .
I have already all reforms, like sufferage, trade unions, all partys allowed, a free press and public meetings

But I am still a monarchy

So how do I become a democracy?

Unfortunately there is no direct route. You have to go via dictatorship of some kind. Appoint an anarcho-liberal or communist party. Then go from there to democracy.

If you playing with VIP mod beware: every forced change of goverment cost -50 prestige (if you wont mess up things you will need 2 changes CM->PD->DM).

However... There is one cheating-direct-route from Con Monarchy to Democracy. Open console [F12] and type event 23101 and hit Enter.

Voila you are now Democracy with Freedom as a national trait. :) Get ready for nice influx of immigrants.

It seems to me all the reforms and good government you implemented will not end your monarchy, because all those concessions to the commoners are historically exactly the kind of things monarchies did to preserve themselves. To make the people overthrow the monarch, you've got to do the opposite, and make your POPs unhappy with the way things are. ;)

I could start a separate thread if people prefer, but I'm more curious about the reverse - how to go from a democracy to a constitutional monarchy.

Incidentally, is this discussed in the Vickywiki?

I'm not sure if it's enough to put a reactionary party in power or if you have to get reactionaries to revolt, but that should turn you into an absolute monarchy from which you should easily be able to go to constitutional.

Going from Democracy to Con Monarchy involving global revolt. (and there is no 100% you get gov type you want)

With full Democracy there is very limited field of maneuvers (e.g. you cant revoke voting rights or something like that).

Unfortunately there is no event turning Democracy into Con Monarchy (except - IIRC - one which works only for France with all that French turmoil) like that cheat provided above.

There are instructions on How to Change Governments on the VickyWiki. I just am not sure how accurate they are any more. I haven't looked and tested them since Revolutions was released. I believe that nothing has really changed. The rules for changing governments in 1.03c and Revolutions should be the same so far as I can remember - which really isn't all that far.

Have I ever told you guys how much fun my life is? I'm constantly living in a state of surprise and wonderment. :D

I believe there may be some changes in changing governments when playing VIP, prestige hits or some such. Or maybe it's just in the revolution. Maybe not.

Turning into dictatorships will always make you lose 50 prestige while playing VIP.
