How do I take the market hub

It was a rocky start getting use to 2.2, but now I have an economy that is "Equivalent" to the fallen ascendancies, but the galactic market hub is held by a different empire. We are a happy people who aren't' war-like, so is there a way to become the galactic market holders without trashing the current market holder's empire. I could crush them like so much dry leaves, but it isn't what my people would do. We would overcome them economically. Their economy is "Pathetic" compared to mine, so must I send the fleets, or is there another way?

I don't have an answer, though I agree that trade wars would be fun! Send in the privateers...

I think you have to annex the system in question. I wish there was a more elaborate way to do it, and I'm assuming eventually it will be possible to somehow get it without straight up military conquest, when an economic method of competition becomes available.

I thought they had said the Market would go up for grabs again every so often. But yeah it doesn't seem to unless you attack them. It seems like it should be possible to bid on it every 50 years IMO.

No, they were talking about wanting to make it work like that, but that in the current version you'd just have to conquer it. Totally agree they should let you have some kind of way to economically become the "market leader", so to speak.

LOL I know they won't, but wouldn't it be great if I could buy their homeworld. Everybody has their price, and while they would likely ask more than i would be willing to pay, I could pay some serious things. Like they could loan me a nearby system, and i would build them a fully complete and functional ring world to serve as their new capitol. The "Universal Standard Products©" way is to bring prosperity to the Galaxy. It is a name that has been trusted for centuries, and war is just bad for business. Besides, if I built them a ring-world, imagine the advertising opportunity.
