I am playing a game as Sweden at the moment and I have a few Asian provinces under my banner now.

I am constantly getting Wokou Pirate Raid events happening in a few of the provinces. I have built the "coastal defenses" using the provincial decision but that only increases the time between the raids.

Is there any actual way to stop them? Or do I have to wipe out Korea or something? I don't want to have to take over the entire Korean kingdom but I want these raids to end NOW.

EDIT: If I must edit out an event, just say so. I'm just completely lost on what to do here.

I don't think there is a way to stop the Wokou pirate events unless you play Ming. In my last beta game, I was getting these events even after conquering all of Asia.

As you noted, though, the frequency of the event can be reduced by building coastal defenses. It can also be reduced by keeping troops in each coastal province (1.2 if 1-2 regiments, 1.4 if 3 or more regiments).

The latest beta fixes the problem and allows you to deal with them through some abstract provincial decisions ("coastal defenses") and events.

Thats not exactly true. It only delays their attacks. But I will leave the event there...

The latest beta fixes the problem and allows you to deal with them through some abstract provincial decisions ("coastal defenses") and events.

As I mention above, in my last beta game (Mar 30 beta) I was seeing the Wokou pirate event even after conquering all of Asia. Implementing the provincial Coastal Defenses decisions reduced the frequency of the pirate events, but did not eliminate them.

I'd be happy to provide a save game if this is an issue that requires further troubleshooting.

I've got Chinese provinces with populations of less than 2k now. This isn't piracy, this is genocide!

One of the funniest things I've heard all week. :)

Does anybody know why the Wokou pirates were modeled differently than other pirates (you know, the ones with the ships called "The Bloody Murderer" or "The Filthy Whore" or other names along those lines)?

In my March 30th Patch Ming was unable to defeat the pirates, much like Korea in 5.0 was unable to defeat them.

5.1 fixed the broken part of the Korean Chain after I copypasta'd the fix from the Korea Wokou event into the China Wokou event and it triggered correctly.

Because later on, they weren't really pirates. They were Chinese brigands. Although the initial pirates were mostly Japanese, they were slowly replaced by Chinese farmers due to Ming's anti-piracy policy, which basically destroyed oversea commerce. The Wokou pirate event should be modified by Ming's mercantilism - free trade slider. If Ming pushes for free trade, the pirate event ought to stop being so frequent.

The Wokou pirates were supposed to be Korea/Ming only, and there is an event chain that can get rid of them. The problem here seems to be when those provinces change owner before the pirates have been dealt with. The starting events need to be Korea/Ming only but everything else should look for modifiers/flags rather than a certain tag. Can hopefully fix this before the final patch.
