Started as the King of Lombardy at the Charley start, noticed a character button labelled 'Form Mercenary company'. Pressed it, got that company out into the world and making a little money. Now though a 100 years have passed, three kings and two mercenary captains. I'm still supporting the bugger and he has around 1000 troops and a 2000 war chest. How do go about disbanding the mercenary company and getting a proper return on my investment? I noticed a button to disband the company with a sub text of 'the captain won't be happy about this!' Will this turn him into a regular courtier in my court, and will I receive all his dosh if he suffers a sudden unfortunate accident?

If not, how would I get my greedy hands on that money? Daddy needs some new universities!

I think the former mercenary leader should keep his money. And if you're his liege and he dies without an heir, you should get all his money

So, dissolved the merc company. The captain became a courtier, but in the court of some random schmuck count in my realm. No relation, the captain was low born. It seems that if I'd wanted to get that money I'd have had to land him in some barony in his ripe old age and wait for it to default to me on his death. As it is the count of Capua is going to be a very rich man soon

If you can have him excommunicated you could imprison then banish with no real downsides. If the pope says no just make an antipope banish the guy then install the antipope with a nice wee war.

Ah, but he isn't actually my subject as a mercenary captain. If he was his company would be much more useful, but for now excommunication would do nothing.

If he's in your realm as a courtier and excommunicated he's open to imprisonment and banishment.
