How do I replace one medium tank for a newer one into my divisions

I had designed and built a medium tank in 1939, then about 1942 I designed a new one. I stopped building the old one and started making the new one, but the new tank isn't being used in my divisions. How do I get the old tanks out and the newer tanks in?

Mark the old one decommissioned (that should be automatic usually).

Make sure they are all the same tank type / group.

Usually they will fill in. But your new tanks could go to a new unit.

If you click on land info, equipment in field (little box on upper right), it will tell you what tanks you have in the field.

So if it's a medium, and the division calls for medium "tank symbol" then it will use the newest equipment possible.

At first I thought you had hit on the problem of making the older tanks obsolete but that didn't work.
I made everything but my newest tank obsolete, let the game run for 5 or so days and no new tanks were transferred into my divisions.
And I have over 900 of my newest tanks sitting in storage.

You can force a division template to use a specific version by clicking 'equipment' in the division designer, under 'medium tank' clicking basic/improved/advanced medium tank will open a list of every variant you have available, and you can then un-tick all the variants you don't want to use.

It usually does, I have never experienced this problem (though I haven't played long on this patch). The only thing I can think of is the new design uses the same chassis as an old one and the game decided the old one is better?

most likely what he did. when you mark the new tank with a new tag you need to mark your division with the same tag too so that the tank goes there.
