How do I prevent crashing?

It bothers me alot when the game crashes. It happens all the time. I never get to play a full game. I know that I can just save and load, but it crashes so many times that 5-10 minutes with waiting for loading screen is far from optimal. How do I prevent the game from crashing?

I have a Geforce GTX 860m (a good one) and a 1920x1080 monitor connected to a gaming laptop.

5-10 minutes to re-load? Either you are exaggerating for effect, or your gaming laptop needs a refresh.

I rarely get crashes playing an unmodded game. If you are getting regular crashes with the unmodded game, you may have an installation problem. If you installed your game through Steam, you can use the Steam validation function to check the integrity of your game files (it should download and reinstall any missing or corrupted files).

If you are getting crashes only with specific mods (HPP and Black ICE can be prone to crashes for some), you might post in the forums for those mods.

HoI 3 has a notorious memory leak, which is probably the problem here (though verifying the cache is always a good start). There's a custom .exe that allows the game to use more than 2GBs of RAM, which will postpone the crashing based on how much RAM you have to feed the game.

That's really all there is. Trying to avoid making the game have to cache too much stuff can help (e.g., not clicking on techs so the game doesn't cache the images, not clicking on generals so it doesn't cache general portraits), but not much.

As for loading times: try defragmenting your hard drive. The game takes a long time to load for most people, but you can reduce it a little by defragging.
