Is there a place in game where I can check what inventions I have? If I happen to miss the event I don't want to neglect building things because I didn't know that I could.

Two ways that I know of:

1) Click on a province and open the build menu. Things that you can build will be a different color and indicate days to complete. Things that you can't build are gray and display a little padlock icon.

2) Open the ledger. Click on the second icon (country overview, I think) and then click next. This page is a list of all your provinces and the improvements built and available. Green check mark is for 'built'. If you have enough money in the treasury to build something, all possible projects will display a hammer icon.

I use the ledger page a lot when irrigation, mines and forestry become available. These improvements increase tax revenue by 50%, so I want them to go into high tax provinces first. You can sort the provinces by tax revenue by clicking on the header.

I've noticed also that I've received many military inventions relating to troop strength (i think). I didn't write them all down, is there any way I can review them?

[thread=361778]here[/thread] is a list of all the inventions by tech level, though you will have to remember the name of the inventions to check.
