How do I get rid of this ridiculous white overlay?

I can't, I want to draw a train line and it's not allowing me to complete the line so I need to know where the break is and I can't do that because of the stupid overlay. It never used to do this, it just started recently.
keep trying escape escape. sometimes it's easier to see the end of a train line in the traffic view
It's strange you say it only started to do this recently, because the game always worked ike that. Maybe you had some mod that disabled the white overlay and then unsubscribed from it? Probably Toggle It:

I don't have, nor have ever used toggle it, afaik it's broken? A few patches back it wasn't there and then one day it suddenly was. I mostly use QOL mods like move it or find it. Either way whatever developer thought that was a great idea should have their head examined. It's a pain in the arse.
That view only appears when drawing rail when you have changed the draw height such that you're underground in vanilla, so if you're not "underground" then a mod is doing it. Your screenshot has some text at the top that says "Outgoing demand" which might be the cause of it
