How do i get a good economy?

However, so far whichever country i play simply loses money. Also, i can never get the right materials circulated to build factories, troops and railways.

So in the absence of a tutorial i'm asking you guys. How did you get enough money and also the right materials?

Also, is there a patch and if so where can i get it? I've seen the 1881 scenario on aars which is why i ask.

Raise your taxes to 50% for everyone, lower defence budget to 10%
Lower military maintence to 50%
and ship to 50%
lower education/reforms/crimes.

I addition to what has been said:

-Turn off autotrade for expensive goods that the AI like to buy (clippers and artillery are the main suspects).
-Search the world maket and your provinces for cheap raw materials that can be converted in industries to high value goods when you choose what industries to build.
