basically as the title says...I'm playing a Community Shattered Europe game, as the catholic king of Mesopotamia, and my wife (who is the countess of Mesopotamia, funnily enough) decided it'd be funny to make my kid orthodox, basically ruining the whole idea of the game (sort of a prester John, "Catholic in the middle of muslims" game)

You'll find the save, most likely, in Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/save games. It can be opened with any text editor. First, you'll need to know the ID of your ruler. Then search within the save file for "father=<your character ID> which should get you to your son. There, just change his religion to Catholic and you're set.

The quickest way: go to the folder where CKII is installed, then /history/titles/. Open the file for the kingdom of mesopotamia (should be k_mesopotamia or some such) and check who's the holder on the date you started.

As for Notepad, it probably has trouble processing a file of that size. Try Wordpad: it can handle bigger docs more easily, and produces a much neater display of the text.

Even quicker way to find your characters ID. It's right at the top of the save file, once you get it open. I use textpad.
