How do i designate a specific patrol path?

To expand a bit on my problem imagine a system like this:

A > B > C* > D > E > F > G* > H > I

where the systems with * next to them contain wormholes. My trade route runs from A to the capital at I.
If i try to set a fleet to patrol the whole route it will skip the middle section by taking the quicker route through the wormhole. I tried shift clicking A to C, C to E, E to G, G to I and it works for the first pass but after that reverts to only patrolling the G to I part.

I’m thinking patrols don’t allow multiple waypoints to be set currently.

I had a similar problem as you, and the patrol wound up only doing the last leg

EDIT: So I'm kind of wrong, up above. patrol requires left clicking, not right clicking, but it's not a true waypoint, it merely adds spokes to the wheel, if you will.
