or should I say 6 of them. As the Byz in 1482 after marching through and annexing southern Italy up to Roma/Romagna I got involved in a pack of northern Italy wars with Austria over Venice (the object of my aggression) and Hungary (my ally). The end result was in 3 wars I took Lienz, Brescia, Verona from Austria and Annexed Venice and annexed Ferrara (both Ferrara and Modena in one shot) and force converted everyone up to and including Savoy, Switz, Baden, Ulm and Austria. Hungary was converted decades ago. Mantua is also my allied vassal. At the end of these wars I was at 14.5 infamy, +3 stability and 0 WE. I was pretty happy but the only province I had a core on was Venice. So of course the "Return Unlawful Territory" requests started flying and I went from +3 to -2 Stability in a few months. I have gotten one stab back and will get another in a few months but it is quite annoying as it will continue every time I move further into the HRE. The constant rebellions are painful as well. So how do I deal with this problem or should I just suck it up and only take one province every 10-20 years or so unless I have a core on it, currently only Treviso.

You have a provincial decision which makes the province leave the HRE. So when you make peace, enforce these decisions as quickly as you can. Each costs one magistrate, so it's better to save a few magistrates when the war is about to end. Sometimes I even delay the end of the war just to be sure I have enough magistrates when it's over.

The other solution is to keep at war with someone, since the event can't fire when you're at war, so find yourself a little useless foe somewhere and keep up the phony war until all the provinces are out of the empire.
Once the event has fired, there's nothing else to do to avoid the maluses though.

Hum, I take it a Horde war doesn't count as I was at war with 4 hordes at the time the events happened. The stab hits will never go away but will the other penalties stop when the provinces core? I think there are yearly prestige and infamy hits but I can't find them listed on the Wiki. Thanks, since I am thinking of continuing into Europe I will use those strategies. I also am thinking of vassaling 4 electors and making myself HRE but that is at least a couple wars away.

Check out who are the electors, if its only austria, milan and bohemia plus some one province states, you might be able to go for an early disband if you can catch one or two of the big ones offguard when you are in your next war. No HRE no unlawful territory. Its the wrong empire anyway, you are the only true roman empire!

I'm not sure who the electors are right now except that the Palatinate and Bohemia are electors. Austria has been reduced to 5 provinces after a couple of severe beating by me so she is no problem and I can take Bohemia with about half my army until they get better units. Brandenburg is the Emperor right now. Austria was Emperor for a couple years and was the country that hit me with the territory requests. After I finish colonizing Fars I could turn back their way. I want to bash Sienna first as I have a CB on her and she has 2 universities I want. How do you disband the empire in DW?

You need to occupy the capitals of all the electors and the emperor. You can see who the electors are by clicking the HRE tab on the side of the screen.

If you're at war with horde and hasn't seen combat for a prolonged period of time, the game will flag you as At Peace. (you can check this from the WE)
Probably to let you colonize the horde without being stuck in a war.

To disbanding the HRE is a big task unless you hit them when they're busy with each others, but is well worth it as non-catholic.

Just in case: occupy as in, while still at war were you succesfully sieged the capital provinces. Some people read this is needing to take the electors in peace deals. (which will only create new electors in time :p)

With luck and timing it can be pretty surgical, you only need to occupy 6 provinces afterall. You do need them all at the same time though. Once its disbanded it doesnt matter if they kick you out or even win the war. The HRE is history. (You can disband it in the HRE screen)

I am playing 5.1, so do the penalties beyond the stability hit still apply to me as a country outside the HRE?

Militarily at the moment I can take on the majority of the HRE if my allies, Hungary and Ukraine, join in. It wouldn't be easy but as long as France doesn't get involved I think I would come out on top. So it is an option to overthrow the HRE.

I'll check out the electors and see if I can do it with a reasonable chance of success. I want to bring Bohemia down a peg anyway so I might do it in stages.

So what is this newuggstore message? Spam I assume.

Yea, I checked last night and it doesn't seem the infamy and prestige penalties continue to apply to me. So I just have to deal with the stab hit of one per province. Slows me down as it takes 2 years to get 1 stability back, I am a big empire and even with churches in every province it takes a while, but I can swap from east to west in my advances while the stab goes back up.
