How do I change my ally's attitude (toward me) from defensive/neutral to friendly?

How do I change my ally's attitude (toward me) from threatened/defensive to friendly?

I want them to join my war.
But they are always threatened/defensive to me(-30), and it requires positive to a successful CTA.

They will probably not accept.
Positive:9
Negative:-30

We need at least 1 more positive than negative reasons for an acceptance.
We currently have -21

Trust:+5
My king's diplomatic skill:+4
My country's diplomatic reputation:+0

Defensive attitude toward my country:-30

I think they can't become neutral if they are your ally. Only possible values are: friendly, threatened and defensive, with the threatened and defensive having a malus for offensive wars.
To get rid of the defensive attitude you could try building an army far higher than theirs, but it's usually much easier to increase their trust and/or your diplomatic reputation. Join a few wars on their side (either defensive or DoW on people they are willing to attack), and get a diplomatic adviser for an increase in diplomatic reputation.

Whisper sweet nothings to them? Sexual favours? Chocolate and roses by candlelight?

Probably none of them will work (although it is amusing to think you trying) - about the only chance you've got is to continuously join all their wars - particularly defensive - until you've got plenty of positive modifiers.

Relations do matter under some circumstances where both Defensive and Friendly are valid attitudes and high opinion will weight it towards the latter. One way to encourage them to be friendly is to build trust - attack countries they want stuff from and give them said stuff in the peace.

Had the same problem last night as Brandenberg with both Poland and Austria. Basically all I did was improve relations then threw everything at them, gifts, military access, guarantee, everything, after a while they changed attitude

Claims and cores, giving them any province that's useful to them will give trust (you get more for stuff they really want tho).
