Lothos, thanks for what looks like an extremely interesting mod. I haven't played it yet but I installed it and the design graphics are very unique.

A question I must ask though. I like the Nato counters used in vanilla HOI2 DD ARM. The counters you have are designed well, but I've played so many games of HOI2 with the standard Nato counters that looking at the map confuses me. I also have problems seeing them since I use reading glasses and a magnifying glass to read very small script (like on DVDs), and, dang, I still can't read it.

How do I change the counters to look like the standard Nato counters in HOI2 DD ARM? I've looked around the folders but it's not clear to me (I have a separate folder where I copied the entire Doomsday (ARM 1.1) folder and play TRP from there as per instructions). Anyone with the answer may of course answer. The question is not directed specifically to Lothos. Thanks in advance!!

I registered and posted at the TRP forums and someone was helping me there.

This semed to work. I copied the 'models' folder from the interface directory for safe keeping, then removed all the models from the 'models' folder, but kept the other pictures in (varied pictures, but obviously not used as models). This was done from my Doomsday TRP folder from which I play the TRP mod.

I then copied the models from the 'models' folder under the interface directory of my vanilla DD ARM install into the 'models' folder I described above. Started the TRP game, and bingo, I have the vanilla counters now.

It was depressing, though, removing the other models. They were crafted well, but too indiscernible for my eyesight.

*EDIT However, the person helping had this to say about my solution:

"Some units might not have their counter in your new configuration, most notably German and Russian special units."

So I guess I will find out soon enough. I'll post when I know more, unless someone fills in the blanks here.

*EDIT 2 I suppose I could look in the folder I saved, and only replace the normal units. I'll see if I can tell which is which.

German SS and Soviet Guard divisions will not have their unique counters anymore when changing the counters the way you did.

Okay, fair enough. What if I reinsert the models I cut out? Will the vanilla counters still be seen, while the special units would have the picture counters? Seems like a longshot to me.

Is there some way for me to do this, or do I need to keep the models folder as it originally was?

Thanks for the help!!!

First, check out vanilla gfx/palette (I haven't the game in front of me) and check Germanys; you will see two units; one militia and one aircraft.

Second, compare it to TRP's gfx/pallete and Germany; then you will se a hell of a lot more units where one is black. As long as you don't manually want to redo everything in a photo editor, I'll guess you're stuck trying to chase your SS units down by clicking hundreds of units on the eastern front. ;)

Okay. Two units in vanilla as you say, but also the same two in TRP in the exact same folder location as vanilla (obviously different folders since I have two games in two different directories--one to play vanilla and "folder compare" and one to play the TRP mod). In TRP, in palette under GER (Germany) there are 18 bmps, which I grant is a hell of a lot more compared to two, but none of them appear black. I hope the mod installed correctly, or perhaps you indeed mean those 18 units. I don't see any SS in the names for them, just "T-Mechanized, T-Panzer", etc. I hope they're all there, lol. However, in vanilla, in the other "palette" folder I do see a ton of other counters.

Also, when you say chasing down my SS units, I take it you mean that they will have counters, but unless I click the counter I won't be able to tell visually if it is the SS unit.

Perhaps I should try to get used to the picture counters. Blasted eyesight. Bah! And thanks again!

Either I'm unclear or you're getting it messed up hehe

First, there are counters and sprites. Does who you are describing "T-Mechanized, T-Panzer", are sprites and not counters. In game, you've got to choose between using counters (small "boxes") or sprites (animated figures).

If you use counter, which I presume you do since that's your "complaint", you will have to ignore those for no.

Yes, in vanilla you only have one file in your palette I belive (never play vanilla hehe) compared to a hell of a lot more in TRP. But when you look at GER and SOV you see they differ from the rest of the counters:

When you take a look at either GER or SOV, you see one of these small boxes are a black background compared to the grey, those are the SS-counters.

So yes, you will see the SS units because there counters are black and the rest of your armies are grey.

I'm no native english speaker, so I'm sorry if I'm bit unclear or having problem understanding you, but I hope this stops the confusion. :)

Thanks. Yes, I chose counters, not sprites.

I'm confused, not you :D

Bah! Stupid me. I see what you are saying. I didn't look in TRP gfx\palette. I see the "hell of a lot of counters" now. I was looking in the gfx\palette\GER folder. I "do" see that Germany has one black SS counter--the rest grey, and Soviets have one almost orange counter--the rest brown.

Okay, so I will play the game and I will see what happens. I thank you very, very much for your help, TeutonburgerW. I hope you have a good weekend :D

*EDIT And your English is very good. I don't speak one word of Swedish.
