You can also annex an entire country if its religion is pagan. ie: american countries such as Lenape or Aztec Empire.

Hmm, in my first game as Castile, I occupied both Granada and Gibraltar and still it wouldn't let me annex.

Granada is not pagan, but sunnimuslim...so to annex you need to have them reduced to one province...and then you can annex. thus to annex granada you need to fight them twice unless somebody else does the work for you.

Remember that when you annex a non-pagan nation you get walloped with 6BB and everyone hates you. In the case of Granada, I would take Gibraltar in a separate peace and then let Aragon (if they are allied with you) annex Granada itself, as it is now down to one province. If the events turn out right you will later inherit Aragon.

6 BB when same religion, 3 BB otherwise.

For marriage-compatible religions, you should rather force-vassalize, and later diplo-annex for 1BB/province. ;)

For non-mariage-compatible religions, you still have the solution of... letting your vassals do the annexation part for you, and diplo-annex them. :D

Best way to deal with Granada is in AGCEEP. Let Gibraltar be taken by Aragon, and then you annex Granada, since you control the capital.

Aragon then gets an event "Castilian claims on Gibraltar" or smth like that. The secede the prov to you through that event.

and voila': Granada is yours in 1.5 years and you get only 3 BB
