Hy,

well, i´m for sure not a very good Player. Build many civilian factories, mil. factories and oil/rubber fact. + the "normal" Inf (2 art 9 inf) and declare war against SOV 1941. But, there is no Chance for a brakethrough. The AI is shuffling the whole front all the time, and SOV has really many Units (350 divs).

I break with my thanks through this human wall in one province, but because of the unit shuffling, i cannot go deeper - no Chance. Maybe i am too bad in this game or i do not understand it correct....

I´ve attached the savegame - maybe someone can tell me what i am doing wrong....

Europe (France, Norway and all the other countries) was no Problem.

Thanks!

From a glance, you need more tactical bombers and close air support. There's 65 factories assigned to fighters, and 7550 fighters in use with only about 500 combined CAS and TAC.

Your infantry division template is also 19 width rather than 20 with only 1 line artillery, with no anti-tank even as a support battalion. Your tank divisions could also benefit from going up to 40 width, with more motorized to follow up breakthroughs with instead.

For stabilising that situation in the Baltic, id push heavily with armour from roughly here up to the coast and and try to cut them off.
V77BQ8i.jpg

Aside from that, your position is stronger than you might think if you just activate those battle plans.

Man, I must be such a bad HOI Player :D .

It's currently 1945 and the entire Soviet Front is stuck. Every time I start an offensive all my attacks are stopped and casualty are extremely high for me. The Front is barely much further than the borders of Poland, who is my ally.

By now, I have to have all Adults Serve to even get close to enough manpower just to replenish my divisions.

Well, from what I can see.

1. You have far too much units where you are trying to attack, you have some serious supply issues which ruin the fighting ability of your divisions not to mention all the wasted equipment.

2. Its 41 and you are still building and using light tanks. The 36 version, its already badly outdated tech. I wouldnt use light tanks at all as germany anyway, maybe for sp arty.

3. Your tank divisions are way too small. I would use 40 combat wide divisions. I normally wouldnt use so much sp arty in tank divisions. But you had tons of that in reserve.
YR1clij.jpg

4. You have far too few planes supporting the attack.

I had the same idea as the previous poster, during winter months I was able to do this with just 40 wide tanks.

Have you tried marine landings in Leningrad plus a province nearby? With the old patch, researching landing craft lets you send 40 divisions, causing a whole new front to open, and forcing them to withdraw troops from the border.

Played elite, went for the Kaiserreich and thought there'd never be a war for me until finally at some point SU declared war on Finnland who called me into the war when they had already lost like 75% of their country. Tried to save them, but the poor supply regions made me realize my mistake of sending two armies. Lost like five divisions on my way out of Finnland, so that was definitely funny. Only border region we shared was the Carpathians which turned into a phoney war, well not entirely, as we were duking it out in the air and the north sea. I thought I wouldn't be able to breakthrough the mountains, so I started my heavy bomber program (at the end of the war I had more than 3000). When I finally had reached air dominance I went for a concentrated armor attack to finally breakthrough in a single province which worked. From there on I had the most fun war I have ever had in HoI4 against the AI as the Soviet counter attacks were utterly relentless and dangerous at times. Took me a whole lot of work to crush the Soviet army, because my advance was severely limited by my ability to reconstruct and upgrade the infrastructure along the front. At some point I noticed I was lacking like almost 2000 heavy tanks, lucky I had captured about 6000 Russian light tanks so I used those as replacements :D. Also saw that I killed like 40000 Russian light tanks, probably way more during the entire war.

In the end I won with like 500k casualties, so that was still quite low compared to the Russian 12 millions, but I can attest that the AI put up a pretty good fight up until a certain point when they just lost too much to hold onto the front line. (My initial Finnland losses account still accounted for like 1/4 of my entire war losses xD )

Hideous, just out of interest, where do you get the tungsten for all those medium tanks? In my Germany games I have difficulty getting enough just for my artillery factories when war breaks out.

Mostly Portugal, tho there is few other sources to buy it from. There is short window in game when war with France prevents you to trade with them safely, but after France has fallen, you can buy it from them again. Or just conquer Iberia. No need to waste civ factories then (or ally Spain and conquer Portugal and ask the tungsten provinces, not sure if this works in the new patch tho).

You make very good points, but I think your tank division can really benefit from having the logistics company, since the infrastructure of the Soviet Union is kind of low. Also, I think 755 breakthrough might be a little too high. Based on my observations on the AI divisions, almost none of them go above 500 attacks.

Thank you very much guys. I will try next time

a) 40 with tank divisions
b) logistic companies for all
c) more CAS airplanes
d) inf divisions with 2 art (i forgot the second one) and an anti tank Companie
e) maybe a Little landing at Leningrad^^
f) no light tanks (because the AI is now using anti tank guns)

I see, you are real professionals - i´ve much to learn

Once again thank you. I saved the game before war against the SOV. I will changed to 40-tank divisions and logistic companies and will try again. But i think, the AI in 1.5 is now a little bit harder to beat. Their Division design is now much better.

I totally agree with the logistic companies. Not sure about the breakthrough tho, I often end up attacking with single tank to tie down wall of enemies and for that high breakthrough is useful.

You make very good points, but I think your tank division can really benefit from having the logistics company, since the infrastructure of the Soviet Union is kind of low. Also, I think 755 breakthrough might be a little too high. Based on my observations on the AI divisions, almost none of them go above 500 attacks.
It's also 500 sa, so you have to divide that by at least 50% and the hard attack too.

Do you have the same issue with the battleplaner, that the AI is attacking all the time - no matter if there is a Chance to win or not? I´ve lost 5 Million men during the first year against SUV because of the battleplaner. I put the aggressivity on low, but no Change. AI is attacking and attacking and attacking. I think i´ve to do it all manually in the future.

You're using spearhead orders instead of attack lines which probably ignores the aggressiveness settings.

Maybe i have to set the attack arrow new when i´m changing the aggressivity?

Edit: No, still the same. The AI is attacking everywhere but not with all Units. Best Thing is, that the AI is only attacking with a few Units and not with all, so thats one reason why they are loosing all battles or most of them.

Units are shuffling around, leaving provinces empty....
