How Did I Lose???

I was playing AGCEEP as Athens. I only have one province. A few years into the game my allies declare war on the Ottoman Empire and I decide to go along for the ride. I march my army north and begin a siege of Macedonia. While I'm doing this the Ottomans advance into Athens and lay siege. Their siege succeeds before mine does. About a month after this the game jumped out to the Victory Point summaries. What happened???? Why was the game over? And what did I do wrong to allow this to happen?

They forced you to accept their peace terms, which were the forced annexation of your country. This ended the game.

As a one province minor, you can never run the risk of having your sole province captured by a superior enemy. Either don't go along for the ride, or if you do, don't leave your capital undefended.

At least add something to the thread so it's not so spammy.

It's best to get up to two provinces ASAP, even if it mean force-annexing a minor.

alos when an enemy occupies your only prov they can force vassalise and force convert you instead

Looks like you managed to get a lot of experience losing with minors.

Finarfin, the first war of a minor is usually crucial, if you lose it, just start over. Luck does play a role.

Do never rely on AI allies; always view them as a bonus, or in the worst case a problem. I can't tell you have many times I my sieges have been stolen and my army attritioned by a 80k allied army marching into the enemy province to "help me".

Yes, when I see my ally on the way to "help" me with such an army, I usually pull up stakes and head for another province to avoid losing 70%+ of my troops!

As to the OP, probably the best thing to do as a one province minor is to get into a war as soon as possible against someone else who is either a one province minor, so you can annex them, or who has an easy couple of provinces to pick off, so you can quickly win sieges and get an offer of at least one province in a peace deal. Do NOT fight large countries until you have a second province, unless you like restarting your games multiple times until the "right" combination of events comes along.
