I was an ally for a good while with Austria, but about 2 or 3 years prior they decided they wanted to dissolve our 110 year alliance. After that I allied France and Castille instead since they have the PU mission on me. It's odd because everyone in the HRE was called into this war. Yes, a hre Hungary and soon to be a republic.

It says you have guaranteed their independence, so maybe you just forgot to revoke it?
