Either it's too long, or too short. Or where Japan doesn't even manage to get past Peking. I'm talking about the AI vs the AI.
The foreign political tree where you get generals and armour hardly matters when the war is short, the allies do not lend lease China equipment in historical amounts. I've yet to see Russia invade Manchuria on historical on a historical date. The infighting between the different Chinas hardly works, there is never a big showdown between red China and nat China like IRL, they just either stay in the faction forever or fuck off and do the continuous focuses like army training. The army corruption national spirit shouldn't be as bad in 1936 as in 1940's, it gradually got WORSE over the years IRL instead of improving.

One way is making all warlords majors, and giving China a 100% surrenderlimit with 0% maximal surrender offset. With this China fights till the end, and collab. goverment operation don't change that, and even when it falls Japan still needs to push trough Xibei San Man and Xinjiang to get a peace conference.

Beside this a supply rework would help, similar to Strategic Command WW2, where you fight along Streets and Rails, and not the wide country side.
