How come there's only one possible start date?

I've just got this game and although it's not the biggest of my concerns right now (I'm having a hard enough time just getting the basics sorted) I find it a bit unusual that there's only one possible start date in this game. I appreciate it's probably too difficult to program a start date for every year like in EU3, but at least a couple of different start dates like in HoI3 would have added a lot to the flavour.

Paradox preferred to concentrate on one good scenario instead of five bad scenarios.

It was easier for Paradox to make one polished, balanced scenario, than several not quite as polished ones.

It's hard enough to get population data, let alone balance everything so that the game works nicely when you unpause. I'd really like ACW and WWI scenarios, and a post- German and Italian unification scenario would be fantastic, but 1836 is trouble enough to get right on its own. Hopefully they'll come soon enough...

And for them the game was quite a risk. I believe it is a game they really wanted to make. But they did not know how many people would buy it.
