Is there anyway i can know what happened with some of my family members? For example. I have a sistter that was married to the king of hungarian empire. After a while, when i checked her, she was the queen of a tribal society. Is there anyway i can track how she got there? Are charlesmagnes annual chronicles worth in this sense? Are the chronicles in depth?

I wonder if switching to another landed family member in a non iron man game would give their chronicle for their line, assuming the chronicle doesn't turn off for everyone but player characters. If not, maybe there is something in the game files to fiddle with if its not hardcoded in?

The chronicle turns off for everyone but player character, and switching to a non-dynasty member via console erases the chronicle.

Merchant Republics allow you to do that, as your heir is generally the oldest, and I do not even think they need to be in the realm. I think its a problem since you can end up accidentally becoming independent. If you give your relatives titles, you end up with this absolutely massive clan though.

Having played a Venice game from Charlemagne start to the end of the game, let me offer some thoughts:

If you are Doge and are set to inherit the Doge-ship, only unlanded members of your dynasty are valid heirs. If you aren't doge, the eldest dynast who is unlanded or a mayor can inherit the family palace. The eldest eligible member of the dynasty inherits unless you specify an adult in your court to be the designated heir. If you are the Doge and are having to spend lots of money on elections to keep the Doge, it is often better to have a designated heir who a) can be given council position and honorary titles to increase prestige and b) gets a cut of your sweet, sweet trade-post income, thus coming in with a purse of cash to do things with. Becoming independent on succession is not something I have ever seen. The real problem is changing cultures on succession. Since patricians can hold both castle and city holdings, you can end up holding a castle and a couple cities in a province. If you accidentally change culture, the cultural buildings evaporate costing a couple thousand gold to replace and taking a couple years. While this isn't much of a set-back when you have 60K pikes wandering around your reformed roman empire that stretches from Brittania to Tibet, it is rather annoying to suddenly lose a couple hundred troops out of the retinues that you call up when somebody decides to counter-siege Venice.

Also of interest, if your troops lose a battle on an island, they disband. I lost all my retinues that way a couple times before I figured it out.

I have had a number of starts and restarts as a MR in Britain. The main problem is much more prevelant if you convert (you don't get this problem as much in Venice since you don't convert). it also occurs only if you lose the election. Say Venice is a Dukedom, what happens if you create a new Duke title and lose the election? It used to be the case that the second Duke title gets moved to your heir and since you cant have two dukes without a king, your heir becomes independent, sometimes switching government type.

It also happens if you have a Duke somewhere else, and he becomes heir and you lose the MR. Why it affects tribal MRs is that you may have 100s of relatives married to counts, with titles, etc. So you almost always get people with landed titles being selected as your heir.

Chronicle feature was a letdown. However, keeping notepad running in background and marking characters to be "of interest", going into message settings and changing it to notify you of all things they do, and regularly checking them and their family up...that's how I kept track for my games.

It worked, but was slow and painful at times. If only Chronicle worked at least half of what it was intended for.

I recently tried to figure out when the last Antipope had been deposed (and thus when I would be able to make my own). I had participated (I thought) in the Antipapal war, but there was nothing in there. Also, it doesn't tell me what territory I conquered in which war. It would be nice to see when I conquered the Byzantine empire, when I formed the British Empire, and when I restored the Roman Empire.
