First, off I don't understand why I have a vassal inheritance warning in the first place, but I do as King of Italy: and of all the dukes in HRE I don't want to fight it is this one (2nd most powerful in HRE with 5 duchies).

My Duke of Verona (who now hold all 4 countries) is married to the Countess of Geneve. So the heir to Duchy of Verona & its countries is also heir to Geneve. I tried killing off some kids and then thought the problem would be solved when the current heir had children, which he does). I still have the warning.

Still, why would someone inheriting a country put a de jure duchy at risk in my own kingdom?

I can keep assassinating my own dynasty but then the problem just switches to another less powerful leige, which at least is preferable. If I revoke the duchy of Verona (I'm trying) will I be Ok -- though that would prob cause a civil war if I give it to someone else and I can't afford the tyrant malus on this ruler right now.

So any advice on what I can do and why this has occurred?

P.S. I have Absolute CA (Correction: I have High CA) -- what good is it if titles still pass out of your realm (other than the levy bonus).

You're doing it wrong.

Kill the Duke so his heir inherits the county and you just gained a county.

Edit; kill the duke first then the countess.

I don't follow... Kill the Duke of Swabia (at 28% chance) or Duke of Verona? -- The Countess is the one with the rogue country causing the problem. The country will still be part of Savoy under Swabia. Thanks, but I don't understand how this helps? The heir would be in same position, no?

ETA: Maybe you transposed the two. If I kill the Countess first and the heir gets the country, THEN gets Duchy of Verona am I safe?
I still don't get why the Duchy of Verona is at risk. Why would Duke of Swabia get it? Or such I'm guessing that is what the warning means.

No, I think killing the duke first is right. The heir will inherit his lands and stay in your territory and, when the countess dies, gain hers. Otherwise he'll inherit Geneve first and pass out of your realm.

Sounds like a bug if you have absolute CA, but I've never been in that situation.

Ok, so maybe the warning is there for IF the countess dies first. That's what threw me off. __Thanks to you both___, I"ll try that and see...
I think there is a glitch Gitro or otherwise I don't understand why this is occurring, I nearly lost another country as well. I'm tempted to switch to medium CA to make life easier as ruler (esp. for heir) but I'd much rather fix it if possible.

The game doesn't know who will die first, which is why it's a warning. Sometimes the problems resolve themselves and sometimes it's even a false-positive that isn't a problem. Also, it's high crown authority you need to prevent titles passing from the realm by inheritance. Typically I find there is rarely a reason to have absolute crown authority.

So does this answer my question on how this occurs as well. If you own/inherit a country under one leige and later inherit a duchy, the leige (even though he's only a duke) gets control of the duchy? If so, I've missed a big part of one of the game dynamics, both to advantage and disadvantage to myself.

Sorry, I mistyped. I do have High Crown Authority. Thanks for the input on the false positives too...I'm afraid some people died for no pressing reason then. :D

If I'm understanding you correctly:

If the Countess of Geneve dies, the heir to Verona and Geneve will inherit Geneve and become the vassal of the Duke of Swabia. If he then inherits Verona, he will become independent of Swabia but be a vassal of the Emperor and that is why it's warning you. If the Duke of Verona dies first then the heir will inherit the duchy and stay under you. When the Countess dies, he will inherit this too and will stay your vassal.

With vassal inheritance warnings where the heir's mother and father are both landed, it's almost always a just question of who dies first and sometimes you'll be ok.

Thanks for the explanation perpetualmuse, you understood correctly, that clears things up for me quite a bit. I wasn't really considering the Emperor since he's my leige but I see where that could be a problem, though I might get him back via diplomacy (seems I did this before) -- but why take a chance.
