How can i make it so that my son stops being a bishop?

The problem is that my son and heir fled to one of my vasals court and that vassal (the damned Duke of who Northumberland, God send him to hell) gave him the archibishpric of Durham? Now my son, who was the best ruler i was going to have so far (all stats at 20 or next to it) is not my heir any longer. Can i plot somethign so that he stops being the archbishop? If it was one of my direct vassals i couñd revoke his title, but he isnt. What can i do?

There are three ways i can think of.
1, Conquer northumberland. But i think you know that already. If you are outside england you can maybe side with them if they declare independence.
2, Find some way to put a heretic or heathen on the throne of northumberland. That way he may revoke your sons title. Though this is usually harder than 1 and less reliable.
3, Excommunicate your son. I've no idea if this is even possible though.
