I am playing Japan in FTM, it is April 1941 and Germany has given 450 brigades to Hungary as an expeditionary force during the invasion of Yugoslavia. Hungary has not given them back after Yugoslavia fell. Now Germany has only HQs on the Russian border, no combat brigades. This is not a good thing. I have never used expeditionary forces so I am clueless about them. Is there any way I can use a TAG switch to make Hungary give those troops back to Germany? Thanks.

Yes, you can Tag Switch and return the troops: FIRST, SAVE YOUR GAME, press the "tilde" key (~) to open the command console, then type in "tag HUN" (don't type the quotation marks). Use the diplomatic option to return expeditionary forces (you'll probably need to click on each and every division on the list to return it), but DO NOT start the clock at any point. Tag Switch back ("tag JAP"), and THEN restart the clock. You MAY need to send the troops back toward German territory, where they SHOULD be handed over upon arrival.

Starting the clock while tag switched to another country will almost inevitably prove the old proverb "Anyone can make a mistake, but making 100,000 of them in under a second takes a computer", since the AI will reassign units in your own country to remote locations all over the map, reorganize your OOB, break your most critical trades, throw a pile of useless garbage into your production queue, and do a myriad of other things that will probably take days of real time to find and straighten out. That's why you save beforehand, so if you DO break something (or allow the AI to do it for you), you can go back to a prior save.

I was afraid that was the case. I had hoped there was a button to end the deal or something but I guess I will have to do it the hard way. Now I just hope that Germany doesn't give them back as soon as I hit start. Thanks.

There is a very large probability that they will be given back. The Germany AI loves to loan troops to its underlings mainly as a tactic for preserving its own manpower pool - but it also hampers said units because they upgrade more slowly and because the minors are more likely to run out of MP first.

I went through and gave them all back to Germany last night and they are slowly trickling back to Germany. Of 450 brigades loaned to Hungary about 50 have come back in a month. The rest are in transit I assume as Hungary no longer lists any expeditionary forces it can return. Hopefully Germany will wait until they are all back and upgraded before she attacks Russia and Russia will not jump in before Germany gets reloaded.
