So how can I get Designer's Cut without going through installing Impulse (whatever in the hell that is)?

rivateer through Gamersgate. The game is still listed on Gamersgate, but when you click on it, you get a product not found message. You could try and order Privateer that way and see if it tells you you get a download of the Director's Cut.

Why give your private information to a completely unrelated company to get a supposedly free patch?
I have never whined about anything on any forum but I've got to say that I'm VERY disappointed. What possible reason can there be to restrict access to a free download for paying customers? If EIC is available from different sellers, then all those sellers should offer the upgrade. And why doesn't Nitro or Paradox have DC on their own websites?
Impulse also downloads its own software onto your computer in order to access their downloads. I really don't need to start reading pages of fine print to see what else they are sticking on it.

My guess is they got themselves in a pickle announcing an Oct 27th release date. I think they had outside pressure to release something somewhere even though it's unfinished. Hence the facts that there has been no official release announcement, it's not available on their own website or through the in-game update, and they are avoiding this forum like the plague.
I agree 100% with you about Impulse too.
It's too bad since Nitro (and Paradox) are usually excellent when it comes to adressing problems.
Impulse isn't going to spam you or install spyware, and you can uninstall it after installing DC, it's not like Steam where you need to run their client to play the game. Since it's free you could even sign up with fake details if you're paranoid. I totally agree that Nitro/Paradox are being very weird about the release of DC, but if you want the patch you can get it in about 10 minutes.
