I own all the regions in Ragusa node (as Milan) with a merchant steering the trade to Venice, and control 69% (1175 trade power) of the trade node.

Cologne who has no ships in the Mediterranean at all, has 103 trade power (roughly 6%) in the node.
How can that be? A merchant can't do that much.

Caravan Power.

Ruins my recent game kind of, too.
Wanted to make a cool Merchant Republic Empire as Venice,
but whatever Trade I build, in Ragusa it gets taken away anyways.

I wonder if this is intended...

Ragusa is an infamously futile trade node to dominate.

Why do you need 1175 Trade power in ragusa?
Sorry but I don't understand your question (which is likely due to my ignorance about how trade works).

More than the crude number about the trade power, I was aiming at controlling all the % of trade in Ragusa, because I have the my home node in Venice (which I control 99%)
and all the trade I make and I'm steering from Constantinople-Alexandria-Aleppo-and now even Crimea have to go through Ragusa before I could benefit from it in Venice.
And my understanding is that (and I could be very wrong, but that's my understanding of it) since I control only 70% of Ragusa it means that I'm losing 30% of all the efforts I'm making not just about Ragusa node but all in all the other nodes.

I'm not complaining, I just wanted to understand how a mere merchant could just take all that trade power away or if there was something more to that.
I checked the Caravan power thing and I guess that explains it.

I think my surprise is understandable since I own all the provinces (which I developed to a minimum of 20 development per province, on average 25) in the node + my merchant + trade edict in Ragusa and Tessalonika states + 25 ships to get 70% while a relatively distant country with no ships can take away 6% with just a merchant.

Get used to it. It's almost impossible to own more than 75% when a node flows down to other nodes. 100% is only achievable in final nodes (or if you control everything downstream, and even though you can lose a big part to pirates). The problem with Ragusa is also the lack of special provinces (estuaries, trade centers, etc) to increase your own Trade Power, while countless states within the HRE pull trade from you, with insane TP bonuses due to their development and the trade idea group.

Don't be too sad, you are stealing trade yourself...Work on Genoa know, this node is really worth it.

Steering from or to an inland node with a merchant gives a pretty substantial trade power bonus.
Maybe they have trade ideas on top of it, which boosts them above the others steering in that node.

Often you will see 20+ HRE princes steering trade from Ragusa to Wien, which usually makes dominating that node infamously annoying, if you want to steer to Venice or Genoa.
The only thing you can do against this is to conquer most of the Wien node as well.

Well like I said, I'm not complaining -so I'm not sad-.
I just wanted to understand if there was anything wrong or I wasn't doing properly, since I thought I did everything right this time.
