First of all I wanted to say a big thank you to OlaHaldor, for his wonderfully helpful video tutorials as they have help me a lot especially with my CIM version of Liverpool Airport.

Now I don't know what you guys think is the best way to serve airports but I'm running a shuttle bus to the nearest Metro station from the airport as well as a local bus route from the airport calling in a loop around a nearby housing area before calling at a seperate metro station before going back to the airport.

At the moment I'm not getting that many people wanting a bus from the airport as I'm only running a couple of lines but as I've got more shelters on the little interchange I've created outside so I'm wondering is it worth putting on more local lines and a couple of longer distance bus routes when I get the cash together? Since most airports in real life have a mixture of rail or Metro links as well as both local and long distance buses etc stopping outside so I'm wondering if I should aim to do the same?

It's only a small airport at the edge of the map so it's only got one runway but I do get the odd large passenger plane landing although my terminal is the large one so it could probably handle more planes as long as I add more bus lines to clear the potential crowds and link them to the two nearby metro stations as well as to other parts of the map to cater for those who don't want to change from one mode of travel to another.

I was just curious really to see how you are all serving your airports and their passengers.

Do you actually get crowds of people coming out of the airport or it it only meant to get a few people at a time?

Well I don't start serving the airport until my network connects the whole downtown area and at least 65-75% of the map.(Considering what size the map is.)

I don't link the airport the nearby areas unless: a) It's made up of apartment complexes or b)the airport is in downtown. What I do is that I'll have a mid-length bus line (Note: ONE LINE) with two stops connecting the airport to the nearest spot that has a Metro station and Shopping Center/Department Store/College/Other Popular Buildings, and put only like 3 or 4 double decker buses on the line. Usually whenever a bus pulls up to a stop there'll be (in a original unmodified game) 20-25 people waiting in green condition, but if there's a traffic or other causes delaying the buses they'll be able to handle it.

I'll post a graph up here.

Hi, I usually try to build a metro near the large airport terminal. If there is a small terminal nearby, I create a shuttle bus line between both. Surprisingly it gets quite full of passengers. My experience shows that stops near the train stations are quite more crowded then the stops near the airports. But I think that metro line to the airport is a good way to attract passengers and gain money from the tickets. Usually the metro line that goes to the airport serves also the industrial and residential areas near it - I mean that I build several stops before the line goes to downtown for example.

Depending of the map, year and money :
- 1 metro station/line (most of the time not the end of the line so people have 2 way to go)
- 1 tram line with 2 station bringing to the main network at a metro station (so I force them to take tram + metro and give me cash)

Thanks for your replies guys I think when I start the scenario again once I get away from the crashes to desktop I will only start linking my airport once the rest of the bus and Metro network is up and running as I've got a pretty large map that I created so it's probably a better to do a phased introduction on each bus and metro route and open each one up slowly

I did have a two stop shuttle line from the airport to the Metro station and back but the weird thing was that one was hardly getting used the most popular route from the airport was the local Speke Circular doing a loop around a local housing estate before going back to the airport but when I think about it maybe that route was popular with CIM airport workers.

As for the two stop shuttle bus to the metro station that one will probably get more people using it once I've increased the frequency of the trains since when I started I was only able to run one train on that line since I also had a couple of other lines to run. But once I get away from the crashes to desktop I can try and get things working properly. I'm just glad I saved the map I created so I don't need to start that from fresh
