How are contributions to wars (Crusades in particular) measured?

So currently I'm doing a run as a Kaiser, and the Pope called for a crusade so I joined. It took a while to gather my armies, and when I arrived in Jerusalem, someone (Queen of Dehubearth) had already been there. No problem. I pretty much singlehandedly got the war score from 5% to 100%, yet the Queen of Dehubearth was awarded the land. So this kind of confused me, as I figured since I occupied a solid five counties, including Jerusalem, and the Queen of Dehubearth had only won a few battles, I had the most war contribution. But I didn't, and the Queen got Jerusalem.

So are war contributions measured more by contributions per time, rather than war score? What is the reasoning?

Battles give big contribution bonuses (the bigger the battle, the better naturally) while occupation gives a slow but steady increase, so if the queen fought all the battles while you quickly occupied some land to 100% warscore, she's going to beat you. Either make the war last longer so you can get the steady contribution score or participate in more battles. You can always check the progress anyway and see who has contributed and how much.

My guess is that you stacked your armies onto already-in-progress sieges. If that's the case, the siege leader (whoever is at the bottom of the siege stack) will get all the warscore for each of those sieges.

The new Queen of Jerusalem should be thanking you profusely.

No, that's if the title of the Crusade target is already held by a coreligionist of the religious head who called the war.

Ah. The rules keep changing on me, and I'm not really keeping up. I only participate in the Crusades where I know I can gain territory, or if my character is zealous.
