..When there's a bus lane.
The arrows only allow motorists to continue forward or turn right, however, how is this possible when there's a bus lane in the way? Does a bus lane exempt its authority when it approaches an intersection, or are cars fixed to the problematic options of turning left or straight ahead? :)

Perhaps we could toggle between the arrows so there is more left/right/forward priority? This action could be beneficial in such circumstances where there is heavy traffic to the left, and could lower congestion by designating a left only lane. etc :)

I don't know the answer, but this is a guess: I think the arrows are more for decoration purposes than giving actual advice. I think it's just like in Cities in Motion 1 where it sometimes happened (especially on highways and their exits) that there are arrows which don't make sense like it's seen in this pic where the cars are allowed to enter the highway in the wrong direction...

I don't know it, but I think the cars can turn right from the lane in the middle as well..

Designated turning lanes would be great not only for decorating purposes, but will make intersections more flexible for traffic :)

judging from videos i have seen, cars can enter the bus lane if the only reason for doing so is to turn right. I don't know if this is the way bus lanes work in america though?

I'm more interested in knowing, how the area on the left of the road can be kept vacant.

Often the "red area" (or whatever colour it has) ends before the junction, so it's visually clear that private motor vehicles are allowed to use this lane. But for the game it doesn't matter at all.

Cool, thanks for doing the research, so now we know CIM2 is realistic in that respect, at least as far as san francisco is concerned. In the UK bus lanes always end before junctions so that it is clear where cars can start to use the lane (e.g. the red area would end a few car lenghts back from the stop line). Does this mean the queing traffic can block bus lanes if lots of cars want to turn right? e.g. cars would join the end of the que of traffic even if it means blocking the bus lane all the way down the road?

I'm kinda worried about that as well, as it will just kill the purpose of the bus lane in certain roads. But we are going to find out in few days :p

This screen shows that cars can use bus lanes. It seems that the far left lane is always for left turns only, which I suppose will help reduce traffic jams due to turning vehicles but doesn't really help your bus lanes.

Thank you! :D

To resolve this confusion, bus lanes should end only meters from an intersection, thus leaving room for any traffic that wishes to use the exclusive lane for turn/forward etc
