Can I trust the sector to do a basically okay enough job like in previous patches
No, as far as i'm aware you have even less options as before, Sectors don't keep a part of the income so you'l have to feed them minerals/energy too (and you can only see the totla of rescources they have, not even a breakdown of how much energy/minerals)

I just wish i could tell the sidebar/ledger thing what sectors are fully developped and hide them completly instead of collapsing them, its getting crowded there :I

So I need to feed them energy and minerals right?

I love micro ... also even 100 planets and 8k pops in total. Right now my biggest problem is the resettle feature and to find the correct planet to transfer .... I often transfer to planets which are colonies to upgrade and lose the -50% growth penalty. First I would like to see further game speed improvements and after that, maybe a transfer list, sortet by Name, but still also the option to see by planet ID, so to scroll to the end of the list, where normally the colonies are listed and a small number how many pops there are and a self defined input list. Right now you see free housing and workplaces, but not total pops. .... but first the game speed, imho.
... and at the end of 2.2. improvements also a small remember when you drop the pop under 100 again, 'cause you get a merchant at 100 pops, which is ruler class, and result in an unemployed ruler pop. You get warnings when you resettle below the supporting pops for buildings, which are built

Options to see planet ID is available already for me: I always name the new colony by number, starting from 1 of course, and increment all the way up. That's the only way I can think of to fast looking for a planet or to quickly know if a planet is newly added. It's helpful in 2.1 too, to find the nearest planet to buy colony ship.

yes, a good idea to rename them by number ;) , could have been my own idea, right now I rename Arcology planets and candidates for it

We desperately need sorting and filtering planets in the sidebar UI.

Sector automation is basically nonfunctional. The outliner quickly becomes a PITA to use once you have 20+ planets, 10+ starbases, 5+ fleets, 15+ civilian ships, etc.

there is tiny outliner and Tiny Planets! (in Outliner) mod, and after some time I undisplay planets to have a view over the military ships and civilian. And every 5 years I make a huge review over the planets and build stuff, to have an expected surpus of 5 jobs and 5 housing for the moment.
I also numbered the planets like they come if you press left or right and some specific letters, like an 'C' ( colonies ) after number, but before planet name, and an ARK for arc worlds like the 'C', and for arcology world designed planets at the end an - AK

... I also would like to undisplay piracy protection ships ...

new sectors are bad, we need to be able to add remove planets and systems. Does the AI actually run the sector? i leave them and the planet just implodes. all of this is meaningless tho since about a hour into the game its stuttering and lagging so much you cant play on it anymore anyways.

I dont know how you guys played before 2.2. I for myself tended to dump all of my planets in sectors, but before i did that i decided in which direction the planet has to go by prebuilding all the t1's and let sector AI just upgrade all taht stuff. It took my about 1-2 minutes to fully upgrade and finish a planet and move on. I dont really know how to finish a planet in 2.2. You have to hit the right amount of housing, jobs and amenities at the end. As much as i like the idea of emi- and imigration, pops grow over the limit and a planet is never really finished that i can forget about him, which is totally needed in the lategame to reduce the micromanagement.
My Thoughts Exactly.
