Can I trust the sector to do a basically okay enough job like in previous patches? I'm struggling to keep up my micro on fast speed with 12 planets, and I'm not too shabby by any means at this game! I'm playing with friends too, so it's not like I can keep pausing.

I don't get how giving resources works either. Do I need to give energy and minerals? Will the sector AI upgrade to advanced buildings that require stuff lime crystals? And what the hell am I supposed to do when I go on a conquest spree?

I often find myself ignoring certain planets in end game because its too boring to deal with them. Your sector list eventually grows far too long too. If you don't mind the inefficiency, just spam build districts on new worlds by then, and spam buildings for whatever resource you want more of.

What would you define as "micro"? In 2300 my tech and economy advantage at least in comparison to the AI is so huge that it's quite sufficient to Go to the planets with the red icons now and then and build

a) stuff they need immanently
b) your empire needs to grow

I don't really get what all this micro fuzz is about in those kind of games.
Just as a sidenote: besides "fast" and "fastest" there also is "pause" somewhere.

Unfortunately rather than take the approach of allowing subsidies in addition to letting sectors keep a portion of their production, sectors keep nothing atm, you essentially have to manually feed them. I've been playing a wide game using the latest beta to see how severe the issue gets. The combination of multiple tiny sectors and needing to manually give them resources periodically is unfortunately a recipe for a very tedious game, at this stage it feels like it's better to either play on smaller galaxy sizes or micromanage every planet yourself.

First of all, he mentioned he plays MP. Furthermore I'd say having to deal with so many planets you have to pause in the lategame really is tedious. I mean have you seen how slow the game gets? You basically have to keep speed going to ever finish.

It's not that friends should mind if speed gets altered now and then. We do it all the time in our MP group and everybody is happy with it. It's not like Stellaris or any GS title is really THAT micro heavy but depending in the state and progress if the game you're going to have to take some decisions and that will take some time - for human beings at least.
Besides if you suffer from stuttering, reducing speed helps. I wouldn't recommend to wage any galactic wars on "fast" anyways.
Once you get a stable econony rolling with tech-buffs coming in it's not like you need 5 Minutes für every planet.

About MP: I misunderstood that part, sorry.

I asked the same questions many times but no one gave a clear answer. Everyone is just focusing on the cool new tall game. What about wide players? Imagine in late game with a lot of wars and conquer, it's easy to have 100+ planets. It wasn't a problem in 2.1 as you could just add all the new planets to a sector. For now I just ignore all of them.

Looks like more people are reaching late game in their playthrough's an realizing how bad it gets trying to keep up once you have more than a dozen worlds. Everyone posting about this a few days ago was downvoted for criticizing this glorious new economic system which is a lot of fun when you own 5 planets, but becomes a micromanagement nightmare later on. The answer is obviously to fix sectors so they can hold a decent amount of planets, and have a small stockpile to build with. Preferably with ability to set an automation focus for each planet. Until then it's either play tall or take a break from the game.

Do you really need to check every planet all the time though? You can easily make around 10 extra housing and jobs every time you manage a planet and come back later. (You also get an icon in the outliner if you have insufficient housing or unemployment.)

I dont know how you guys played before 2.2. I for myself tended to dump all of my planets in sectors, but before i did that i decided in which direction the planet has to go by prebuilding all the t1's and let sector AI just upgrade all taht stuff. It took my about 1-2 minutes to fully upgrade and finish a planet and move on. I dont really know how to finish a planet in 2.2. You have to hit the right amount of housing, jobs and amenities at the end. As much as i like the idea of emi- and imigration, pops grow over the limit and a planet is never really finished that i can forget about him, which is totally needed in the lategame to reduce the micromanagement.

If fast is too fast for you, then you can always convince your friends to play it on normal speed instead.

This is like people complaining hard is too hard when there is an easier difficulty.

A symbol in the outliner...
I think people are talking about the good old wide playstyle. I often had 200 planets by the endgame. Even with the tiny outliner I usually had to scroll through my core worlds before 2.2. Nevermind my one or two sectors with 100+ planets.

Playing a wide empire in my current game I’ve found that by the mid-end game my economy is doing well enough that I don’t need the efficiency that micro brings. If you’re playing 5-10 planets then making sure there is just enough jobs and housing is necessary. Unused districts cost upkeep and give you nothing which can be quite damaging and opening specialist jobs tanks your basic resource production.

But once you’ve got a dozen or so well developed planets you can afford to build a tonne of districts on a new world, hit it with a growth boost decision and leave it for a few decades. Don’t even bother with buildings beyond a gene clinic and clone vat (for the growth boost). Come back later to find a tonne of basic workers, spam some buildings and wait again. It’s inefficient but entirely possible and makes sense for a large empire anyho.

I don't think micro of many planets is all that difficult. All you really need to do is build a new district or building once in a while when an icon pops up. If you're fiddling with the employment priorities on every single planet, that's on you.

That being said, the outline could do a better job of letting you focus on things you want to pay attention to. I'd love a planet list that ONLY showed planets that need some kind of attention for example.

That depends a bit on the definition of many. If you are talking about 20 planets, sure. But if you talk about 50 or 100+, its really a problem imo.

If you're in a strong enough position to have 100+ planets, you can probably turn some sector automation on and not be too worried about the sector AI being less than optimal.

I love micro ... also even 100 planets and 8k pops in total. Right now my biggest problem is the resettle feature and to find the correct planet to transfer .... I often transfer to planets which are colonies to upgrade and lose the -50% growth penalty. First I would like to see further game speed improvements and after that, maybe a transfer list, sortet by Name, but still also the option to see by planet ID, so to scroll to the end of the list, where normally the colonies are listed and a small number how many pops there are and a self defined input list. Right now you see free housing and workplaces, but not total pops. .... but first the game speed, imho.
... and at the end of 2.2. improvements also a small remember when you drop the pop under 100 again, 'cause you get a merchant at 100 pops, which is ruler class, and result in an unemployed ruler pop. You get warnings when you resettle below the supporting pops for buildings, which are built

Do you really need to check every planet all the time though? You can easily make around 10 extra housing and jobs every time you manage a planet and come back later. (You also get an icon in the outliner if you have insufficient housing or unemployment.)
Mate, do you want to do that 100 times and keep tabs on 100 planets?

If you're in a strong enough position to have 100+ planets, you can probably turn some sector automation on and not be too worried about the sector AI being less than optimal.
I asked in the OP if it works well enough. Does it? Because the few times I have used it, the AI didn't build anything
