I haven't played this game in 7 months, decided to resurrect it, so bear with me.

I'm Germany and it's 1937. I declared war on the Netherlands. Their east Indies counterpart (didn't know they were autonomous) joined in. I capped main Netherlands and took all states, but east Indies are still in the war. I can't get any fleets anywhere near there for a naval invasion. Tried getting military access with Italy and docking closer in Africa, that didn't work either. Any ideas?

When the peace conference fired, you had the options then of puppeting Dutch East Indies and taking all states from the Netherlands, but didn't have enough war score to do all of that (since your only war score came from conquering the Dutch provinces in Europe). What you should have done is select "Pass" enough times to increase your war score to a level where you could both puppet DEI and take all Netherlands states in the peace conference.

With the peace conference now in the past, you are pretty much out of luck (barring getting military access from Japan). But DEI is no threat -- you will just stay at war with them for the rest of the game. Time to focus on the rest of Europe.

But DEI is a Dutch puppet (that's why the Dutch could bring them into the war). You may not recall seeing the option to satellite DEI in the Dutch peace conference, but it was there.

We're not blowing smoke here -- just select "pass" a few times in the Dutch peace conference and you can take all Dutch provinces and puppet DEI in one fell swoop.

They are 2 different nations now, it wasn't like that before.

That is true. Before you could take all states and get the DEI. However, now they are treated as separate entities. Just select pass in the PC and you will see your score go up. Once it is high enough you can puppet the DEI.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I always found the conference interface to be confusing and unintuitive.

Why do you have to pass a few times? It's just me vs them, no other countries.

If you efficiently dispatch your enemy, your war score will be lower than the amount necessary to take both their territory and satellite their puppets. When you select Pass without taking anything, the Pass amount is added to your score. Pass a few times and your score will be high enough. Why did Paradox design it this way? Probably to avoid people complaining on the forums that they pounded Country A into the dirt but didn't have enough war score to take everything they wanted.

You can also Pass when there are other claimants in the peace conference. By passing, you build more score, but at the risk that others may take something you wanted. 'Tis a trade-off in multi-party peace conferences that is not present in a single-victor peace conference.

I think it was designed this way with the intent that multiple participants in a war would share the spoils in some meaningful fashion. I am also willing to bet they are not at all satisfied with how this particular design element turned out. I would predict more revisions to it in the future.

Germany can take all of Indonesia early in game 1936.
As soon as I get 50 points, I justify war with Netherlands on single province. Once war is finished with Netherlands, then take all of Netherlands provinces and still you remain at war with Indonesia. I have invaded Dutch northern Sumatra Indonesia with 6 divisions starting from captured port of Holland. Start invasion force from Holland immediately. Sign Non-aggression treaty with Italy. Request military access to Italy. Split your German fleet into 5 sections to cover the entire 15 sea zones escort path fleet to Indonesia from Holland. Split fleet into 5 sections and each fleet can cover 3 sea zones. You must spend 150 points and get 10% extra range fleet logistics Admiral into general staff, or you come up short by 1 sea zone. Save the submarines for last 2 legs from Ethiopia port as they have range of 4000 miles. The 1st fleet from Holland can only go 3 sea sections. Port 2 split fleets in Sardinia, Italy to cover all of Med and Atlantic sea section of straits of Gibraltar. Port the submarines in Ethiopia ports and split sub fleet into 2 parts to cover red sea and India ocean legs. You now have unbroken 15 sea zones path to Sumatra. Move additional 8 reinforcement divisions of troops to port in Italy Ethiopia as the initial invasion fleet is preparing. Once you capture northern port in Sumatra, then move reinforcements from Ethiopia port to Sumatra. Move most of your fleet and planes to Sumatra as you capture ports and airfields. You should be able conquer all of Indonesia with 14 divisions in a couple of months after initial landings. You could have marines ( amphibious & jungle fighting) available from training if you research marines at start of game and built marine divisions immediately. Once fleet is in Indonesia to cover sea zones, you can invade all of Indonesia islands and provinces. A two division amphibious army only takes 14 days for invasion preparation. Amphibious army of 4 divisions takes 28 days. Take all of Indonesia and you have enough rubber and oil for your Germany economy. Once war is completed, Garrison the 14 division in Indonesia to take British and Australian provinces once war breaks out later with the Allies. Return the fleets and airplanes to Germany.
