How am i able to build a cavalry unit from the next military tech level?

Hi,

I'm tech millitary 25 as Italy (Venice start). (It's ironman and I did not use the console - nor know I how use it.)

In the build unit menu from a province (Normandy in France), I see:
- infantery
- "hussard" cavalry (my tech 25 choice for cavalry)
- canon
- uhlan (cavalery unit)

In another province, I cannot build that unit at all. (For example: Kiralyfold in Hungary or Orda in south Russia)

I was wondering what is the uhlan and checked my unit menu and the wiki.

It appears the uhlan is the cavalry unit from level 26 (military tech).
WHAT made me able to build that unit? WHY only in some provinces?

I haven't yet paid for the military tech 26 (I could because I'm at 1000+ MIL points, but I haven't yet done the Enlightnement institution, and the "normal year" for tech 26 is next year (1730, I'm in 1729).

Does that province have a core belonging to someone else who *does* have Tech 26? It used to be that you could recruit other people's units (even across Tech Groups) from their cores, but that was supposed to have been fixed.

Aythee: yes it is core for France, who is at tech military 26. I will post a bug report then and upload my savegame.

Weird. I always thought that was a feature, not a bug, since you basically stole their leftover technology. It made sense in some way.

Hordes used to have only one unit type. It never got better. While you might disagree with the design decision (and eventually, the devs themselves changed things), but it was still how the game was supposed to work. So... when you could just conquer a single other province and recruit millions of men from there to get around that, it was weird to say the least.

Let alone others recruiting Horde/Anatolian units early, or Western units late... at that point why even have different units?

Haha, it's both, kinda. I'm a man, but have two avatars for gaming depending on if I need a male or female character. Since the male name was already taken on these forums, and I hate adding symbols, I just created my female avatar.

They should bring back westernization in the form of changing unit types. It feels like the worst kind of waste of time playing some countries because no matter what you do your units will be trash.
