Thinking of poor NL (*ugh*) hansmaa was on a good track, to bad of the innovative slider idea ;)

Hive, most of your ideas are very nice and i agree. Especially the support limit thing, this will hopefully result into that NL (also for porto btw) will get more equal ships support limit as England, which if reasonably played is very hard (impossible) to beat for NL from 1720 on :( This because England cant go fully naval since its need of a army.

Im a bit nation oriented...Sorry.... :D

I personally think that it's time we look at the sliders, of which some could use a bit of improvement. Here's my thoughts:

- naval/land
This slider shouldn't affect manpower at all, and should have a less impact on morale. It could affect support limit, though. And it could affect price on artillery as well, as it does with inf, cav, warships, galleys and transports. Finally, it could give a slight tax boost for provinces with land connection to capital for land powers (to balance the impressive bonus naval nations get to overseas tax income).

Dunno. Morale effects are ok in my opinion, and manpower too. The effect of manpower could perhaps be toned a bit down. And doesn't the naval nations get lessened penalty, not a bonus from overseas territories?

- free trade/mercantilism
This slider needs some tweaking to make free trade more benefitial. So just like mercantilism means more trade embargoes without getting a massive negative TE hit, how about free trade having the same effect on trade agreements? I propose that with full free trade, you can have 1 TA without penalty - and full free merc, you can have 1 embargo without penalty. And also, you could get only -1% TE for each TA at full trade (with a cap on 2 or 3), with the same going for embargos at full merc.

Interesting proposals. Of course more merchants and colonists help the free trader already. And lessening TE penalty from TAs when being a free trader is not the most logical thing in my opinion. Maybe the merchant prices should be toned, I think with free trade there should be a lot of 'private initiative', giving lots of cheap merchants but perhaps smaller profits for the state?

- narrowminded/innovative
This slider could need some tweaking as well. When narrowminded, there provinces with your state religion should be even more loyal 8eg. give more negative RR than usually) and perhaps even give a minor tax boost (like 5% or so). Also, therecould be a small bonus to converting when full narrowminded. Being fully innovative should still be superior though, and this is the way: remove/reduce the negative impact on having non-state cultures and religions. And then add more of the events that push you to narrowminded, to make it a bit more difficult to go there. Tech bonus for being innovative could be slightly tweaked down once more.

Thoughts?

This I like. It would solve a lot of problems with the ahistoric 'convert-everything' phenomenon. Also for SP it would make AI countries like OE more viable. I've always wanted something like this actually.

I doubt it. At least no official response have been seen yet, so...

What happened to your avatar btw? And why do you have "gone" as your location and "retired" as your title if you are still around anyway?

Uhm... since Adam is clearly back, I do perceive that as a rather stupid question. :p

Anyway, less spamming and more on-subject talking!

Oh, and I'm not sure I mentioned it before, but being innovative should severely lower the stab penalty for having provinces of a different religion - so that eg. India is more lucrative to enter...

I dont see why its unreasonable to effect manpower, it seems reasonable that if you are naval oriented you have more men at sea than otherwise. Perhaps instead you could have the size of the navy effect man power? So build one warship reduces MP by 0.5 (or so).

Agree, it should raise the price of artillery as more cannons go to ships. I was never quite sure why going defensive lowers the cost.
