Astorga; 5th of February 1105
I, Count Guterre of Bragança, write these words as my son's army, the Duchy of Portucale's army, marches upon the ancient bastion of our faith, Astúrias, against Duke Ordoño the heretic. Heresy... this is the curse that has shattered the home of the Apostle James apart. Yet God is merciful and provides for his servants to make things aright.
Five years ago, as both a Muslim invasion and heresiacs descended upon the land a star fell from heaven and, with its metal, I forged a heavenly sword. With the sword I deposed the ineffective Estevão the Frail who had left the Duchy in disarray. My son, the former Duke's nephew, is perhaps a simple lad. Can hardly decide anything on his own, yet he is full of zeal for the Lord and heeds my council.
Together we will defeat the Fraticelli heretics to the north, free the Apostles tomb and, God willing, dispatch King Felipe the craven, only King of Galicia in name.
Thy will be done.
