Probably a dumb question, but does this game have a hotseat option? My partner and I love playing these strategy type games together.

Hotseat in the traditional definition usually describes the process of playing MP on one machine. This lends itself to turn based games but not to real time.
However, it's possible for two people to play the same country, AFAIK, if you link two machines in a LAN.

Possibly an interesting way to play the game, but not an "option" per se.

The Heroes of Might and Magic series had a nice hotseat option. Would it be too much to ask for a similar setup to be included in EU3 v1.2?

How on Earth would hotseat be implemented? HoMM is a terrible comparison as they are turn based games, EU3 is real time.
I seriously doubt that this will ever happen.

Looks like you've never played Rise of Nations, since in their skirmish mode (which they call "Quick Battle"), you can set yourself as at least one of, if not every-last, human player in the real-time match. In fact, that's the only fun I have with that game, since unless you have friends who also have it, it's boring without modding the heck out of it.
EDIT: Either by modding it or playing it hotseat, I meant--almost missed that in my sentence there! XD
