Didn't fix the problem for me sadly. Tha game still randomly crashes every 1-2 months.
Appreciate the effort though, given the current time!

I'm no tester so I just have my investigative hat on, but is it just the fact that the game is "live" that makes people more... vocal about issues?

Now that it's on live, people get entitled about how it's a product they paid for and they won't stand for this and my money is going to blackjack and hookers and blah blah blah. The same people who would not actively seek out or participate in a beta to fix problems will get upset about the quality of a product that gets released, and refuse to simply roll back when that's an option because then they wouldn't have the newest thing, which they DESERVE, and it's totally unacceptable that you couldn't provide the only bug free release of any software in the history of computing.

Have you tried a new game? I read in one of the CTD threads that there appears to be some corruption with monarchs from the bug, so we are crashing due to that, not the bug now. They are looking into it, but they said not to expect anything before monday. They said to keep your save for now, and try a new game which should work. They did not mention if they will be able to recover the save. It could be like the ironman saves that got corrupted and be unfixable...just have to chalk it up to new release and move on. ( Hopefully it'll be fixable though. )

Yeah, old saves appear to be busted. My 1.14 iron man save still crashes every couple of months with the latest hotfix resulting in the same entry in the exception log(monarch death related). I now started a new game with 1.14.2 and have been running it on speed 5 for 35 years without crashing. Hopefully it stays that way.

Thanks for the hotfixes.

Unfortunately ironman saves invalidated by achievement issues in earlier versions proved irrecoverable, but new games should be fine now.

When you say "new game" do you mean completely fresh 1.14.2 save, or would a 1.14.0/1 that hasn't broken yet be safe to continue? Or will achievements stop working in a 1.14.0-created save as soon as the AI forms Japan in 1.14.2?

It says "saves invalidated" -- i.e. ones that have been invalidated. Not ones that COULD HAVE BEEN invalidated. Sounds to me like you should be fine.

I can't reverse to 1.14.1 to get my granadan achievement?

Oh, I don't know, because there has never been a problem breaking Ironman like this before. Art of War, Comet Sense, Res Publica all worked completly fine. I just lost 12 hours of Novgorod Archivment progress and as you can see others lost time and progress too, so it is no surprise that we are abit annoyed. Do not try to put the blame for this on us.

Only in EU4 will people complain about a hotfix.

Am I the only one here who expects developers to test the most basic functionality of their product before it's released? This place never ceases to amuse me. Every other gaming community would most likely be literally flinging crap at PI's headquarters after such bug galore. It's the same story after each patch or overpriced expansion. Not to mention that the game is not playable in 1920x1080 without mods because of microscopic interface. And user-made mods is what PI suggests for that...

Anyhow, I like how you fixed the monarch-general bug where monarch-generals would change into normal generals after the game was loaded from a save. Now, the monarch-general simply disappears altogether, so if I roll a bad one, I can just restart the game and get a new one, i.e. make him a general again. If it worked only for reincarnating hindoo leaders, this would be the best f-up introduced so far. Don't even want to think how badly it messes save game files and when they are going to kick the bucket...

Actually I'm pretty upset about the ctds. I have had 3 different types, about 20 different times, in just about 2 hours. None of their previous dlcs or even the base game was this bad. I don't really care too much about minor bugs, I can deal with those...and unlike you, I understand it's impossible to fix them all. The processors have issues, motherboards, bioses, OSes, firmware, compilers, languages...all have bugs. So, even if your own code was perfect, it would still have bugs. As time goes on, and things get more complex, this necessarily gets worse unfortunately. Devs have to fix what they can, catch a reasonable amount of the rest, and just shrug off whats left.

Oh, I play 1920x1080 on a 23" monitor, and have pretty poor vision. No problems at all with the size of the ui. Could be smaller and be just fine.

Wiz said before that open beta gets you virtually nothing, presumably in terms of useful bug reports, feedback, or even a substantially larger user base, and Paradox already does closed betas.

Incidentally, as someone who's been part of an open beta for something entirely different before, I have to agree -- basically all they are useful for is stress testing, or seeing if something really obvious is broken. Anything deeper than that is asking too much of uncaring laymen who think that beta == 'play new version/new game faster', as opposed to 'help fix problems with new version/game'.

Actually it's interesting that people seem to play games/DLCs with more attention after release than during beta tests. It's almost like: if you ask people to spot potential bugs, they will do anything but spot bugs. But if you just release the product, which always creates the impression that it's complete (although as you said, a piece of software is never complete on release), then people become very sensitive at noticing bugs and issues. I have the impression that many players have a very uncritical attitude towards games as long as they are not released, and a very alert attitude once the game is out. I think that in general, if it was more widely accepted among gamers that software is not complete and clean on release in 95% of all cases (and if at the same time, publishers and developers wouldn't pretend that they could make bug-free releases), then many misunderstandings could be solved and people would know what to expect from a release, and what not to expect.

Personally, I think that the development process of a game is only complete once it has been played by a lot of people for a long enough time, all the various bugs have been fixed (and in turn, all the new bugs introduced by patches have been fixed, and again and again...) and there are no further changes to be expected.
