It's there, but barely do anything.

Basicly, if you want to tutor a kid from another realm, their liege can reject becuse "child would be hostage in a foreign power"

You also can’t declare a war on anyone who holds a close relative of yours hostage. I don’t think anything bad will actually happen to your kid if war does break out, for example because your liege declares it.

Wouldn’t that be something, if you imprisoned the little foreign princess and got to use all the options the game gave you on her. I can see why Paradox didn’t go that route.

Update: Tried it in a test game: attempted to imprison my heir, who fled to a foreign court. I was able to declare war on his new top liege, and the prince simply fled again.

Mainly you could do this with your vassals; make them hand over their children to other vassals who'd be going to war with them to prevent it. I think.

Could be very useful for keeping an ambitious but doesn't-hate-you-to-the-guts-yet vassal at bay.

I like to do this with a newly put down vassal if you can get them to do it, or if you're getting ready to declare yourself the King, you can do this before all your Dukes want to take your crown from you. :) Remember, they just have to be in your court, NOT necessarily warded to you directly.

I don’t think anything bad will actually happen to your kid if war does break out, for example because your liege declares it.

It might've been unrelated, but in a much earlier game(1.06 I think), I declared independence from Sweden as Finland, and got a message that one of my vassal baronesses in a swedish county had gotten executed.
Why I think it might've been unrelated is because said vassal was underage and she was executed on orders from her lowborn father. And ofcourse that she didn't hang around in a foreign court AFAIK.
