Host has different version

Hi,
A friend recently purchased Stellaris over the Christmas break, and we've tried to get a multiplay game going, but no matter what we do it always ends up with a message saying that the host has a different game version, but we don't.

- We had the 1.4.1 version of the game installed, no mods installed for either of us.
- Verified the Steam cache.
- Since I had the game since release, I even uninstalled and re-downloaded the game.
- We even both went back to 1.3.2.
- We both tried hosting, same thing there as well different game version.
- Restarted Steam a few times as well.
- Just cleared out my Paradox save games folder and reset the game back to the start there as well. Still no dice.

So basically both games were 1.4.1 (1759 was the checksum), tried 1.3.2 as well and new everything reset to be a new game from scratch. My friend had never played before so it was a clean start there any way.
Not sure what else we can try.

Was this the case in both the launcher and the main game screen, for both players? If not have that person do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

Yeah thanks, that pretty much got it. I manually deleted the Stellaris folder from the steamapps/common folder and did the verification in Steam which re-downloaded everything... again.
Still don't know why the initial verification and the uninstall and re-download didn't work though. We're up and running now so I'll take it.

The Steam verification process only looks at files that Steam installed. It has no idea about files that the game itself, or various mods, wrote - how could it tell if they were OK or corrupted?
